Keefe was gone when Sophie awoke, but his side of the bed was still warm.

She blinked the sleep out of her eyes before sitting up and crawling out of bed.

As she made her way down the steps, the smell of fresh coffee wafted up from the kitchen.

A pang of nausea hit her and she sped up her steps, rushing to the bathroom to throw up.

"Foster?"

She heaved again, thoroughly emptying the contents of her stomach.

"Soph, you okay?" Keefe murmured, pulling her hair back and tying it in a low bun.

She nodded weakly, dry heaving again.

He left for a moment, returning with a glass of water.

When she was sure she had nothing left to throw up she flushed and stood, arms braced against the sink.

Shakily she accepted the glass of water from Keefe and brushed her teeth to rid herself of the bitter taste.

"Do you feel okay?" He asked, putting the back of his hand up to her forehead. "You're not running a fever."

"It's probably just a stomach bug." She murmured, exhaustion weighing heavily on her.

"Come sit, i'll bring you some food." He guided her to the couch, bringing her breakfast.

A week later Sophie was at Havenfield visiting her parents.

Grady was out wrangling some new animals into their enclosure while Sophie and Edaline chatted inside while baking.

As Edaline opened the oven to pull out the tray of mallowmelt, the scent wafted over to Sophie.

Almost immediately bile filled her mouth and she narrowly made it to the bathroom before throwing up.

Sophie hated throwing up. And yet here she was for the fourth time this week. She could not get rid of this stomach bug.

"Sophie? What on earth-" Edaline said, coming into the bathroom and holding her hair back.

"I'm fine." She rasped. "I've just had a stomach bug for a while. Everything makes me nauseas."

"How long?"

"A little over a week."

Edaline squealed, jumping up and letting go of her hair.

Sophie slowly stood up, staring at her adoptive mother in confusion at her bizarre behavior.

"Could you be pregnant?"

Sophie froze in the middle of brushing her teeth to stare at Edaline in the mirror who was grinning madly.

"What? No...I-I..." Sophie rinsed out her mouth and placed the tooth brush down.

Finally she turned and faced her mother. "I guess I could be..."

Edaline very well near screamed, jumping up and down again. "Oh I knew it! Something was different about you and I couldn't figure out what it was!"

Sophie just stared at her, perplexed. "I don't even know if I am."

"Oh of course you are! Come on we have to go see Elwin!" Edaline linked her arm with Sophie's and dragged her to the transporter.

Three hours later Sophie was sitting on her couch, staring at the little printed pictures from Elwin.

They showed the outline of a baby, the main features still growing in.

He said it was to early to tell the gender but he estimated she was about 10 weeks along.

Edaline had then proceeded to drag her to a baby boutique to buy a onesie to surprise Keefe with.

Now Sophie was sitting alone with her thoughts and the tiny person growing inside of her.

Deep down, she knew that she didn't have a stomach bug, but the thought of growing and giving birth to a child was so beyond her that she preferred to stick with with the bug.

Glancing at the time, she saw that Keefe should be home any minute.

Carefully, she set the onesie on their bed, the ultrasound pictures on top of it.

Then she made her way to the kitchen to prepare dinner. As she started chopping vegetables her hands began to shake out of nerves.

Unsteadily, she set down the knife, fighting the urge to once again throw up, although from nerves or the baby she wasn't sure.

Keefe opened the front door and came in dropping his bag.

"Hey Soph." He said, sneaking in and wrapping his arms around her from behind.

Almost immediately he pulled back. "Whew that is a lot of anxiety. Sophie what's wrong?"

"It's nothing-" She started to say but winced when he gave her a incredulous look.

"I could feel your emotions from outside the house don't lie to me."

Not knowing what to say, she just wiped her hands off on a towel before grabbing his and pulling him behind her.

"Soph what-" He started to argue but halted in his steps when she stopped him in front of their bed.

He stared at the onesie and ultrasound picture for a long time, allowing Sophie's anxiety to build up even more.

"Is that what I think it is?"

"Yeah." She murmured, her hand moving to tug on her eyelashes out of habit.

Finally Keefe turned his head and gazed at her. "You're pregnant?"

"Yeah."

"We're gonna be parents"

"Yeah."

Keefe tackled her in a hug that caught her off guard.

She gasped, before reaching up to return his embrace, sighing in relief.

"Why don't you sound more excited?" He mumbled into her neck, holding her close.

"I-I wasn't expecting it. I didn't know how you would react. I mean we've talked about kids sure but we're still young I mean elves live for so long and I thought we'd have kids later you know? And it surprised me so much and obviously i'm happy but gosh i'm so scared too Keefe I don't know how to be a mom-" He cut off her ramble with a gentle but firm kiss.

"Deep breaths Foster. There you go." He soothed, holding her face in his hands.

"You're going to be an amazing mom. Edaline raised you for goodness sake. She's the best mom you could ask for to be a rolemodel. And I promise i'm happy. I don't care if we're young. I'm just so incredibly happy." Keefe replied, genuine joy evident in his face.

It was infectious and soon enough Sophie had pushed down her feelings of doubt and fear and replaced them with excitement, a smile crossing her own face.

They were going to have a baby, their family was going to grow.

Keefe kissed her again, mumbling against her lips, "It better have your eyes."
