When the week started, I was getting ready to go to my first weekly check-in meeting with Whitney. To say I wasn't looking forward to it was an understatement.
I felt even more awkward about everything after the events of the weekend, and being trapped in a small office with her was not going to help.
"Alright, going to my meeting," I said to Kaia and Gabbie who were sitting in the kitchen.
"We'll see if I survive," I continued as I poured myself a cup of coffee.
"Have fun with your girlfriend," Kaia said as she smirked at me.
"Oh fuck off," I mumbled.
"Good luck," Gabbie grinned.
I walked out and made my way over to the office buildings to meet Whitney. When I got there, her door was open and I quietly knocked.
She quickly looked up at me before motioning me inside.
"Morning Bailey," she said, "you can come in."
"Morning," I said as I sat down across from her.
"Have a good rest of your night after you guys left?" She asked.
Her question caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting her to bring up this past weekend at all.
"I uh - yeah, we did," I said hesitantly.
"Good," she sighed, "anyway I have some tests we can work on grading, then we can get things ready for classes this week."
"Right, sure," I said.
She handed me a stack of papers and I started to read through them, correcting the answers as I went.
"So...Cam, huh?" I asked after a few minutes of silence.
She stopped what she was typing on her computer and looked up at me.
"Well," she sighed, "I slept with your brother first, but he wasn't my type...so yeah I moved on to Cam."
"You - what??" I asked as my eyes widened.
"It was a joke, relax," she laughed, "but you should see your face."
"Okay, that was not very nice," I said as I slumped back in my chair.
"Pretty funny though," she responded before turning back to her computer screen.
"And your guy seems like an....interesting choice too," she continued.
"Tanner? Really?" I asked, "and why do you care about that?"
"Why do you care about Cameron?" She quickly shot back.
"I - he's just a jackass," I said quietly.
"I can figure that out for myself if I need to," she responded.
"Your other ex seemed like a real peach too," she continued.
"McKenzie?" I asked as I looked up again, "she's barely an ex, we used to hook up sometimes, that's it."
"Seems to be a common theme with you," Whitney said.
"Excuse you?" I said as I raised my eyebrows at her.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have said that," she quickly responded.
"No, you shouldn't have," I said, "but I have my reasons for doing that, reasons that I don't need to discuss with you."
"No, you're right," she shook her head, "really, I'm sorry about that."
I looked back down at the papers in front of me and went back to grading them without saying anything else to her. As if this wasn't awkward enough, she'd definitely just made it worse.
