"Are you sure this wasn't meant to be a booty call?" I asked as I kissed the side of her neck.
"Positive," she said as she took me by the waist and moved me off of her lap.
"You're awfully harsh today," I said as I sighed and looked over at her.
"I'm not being harsh," she laughed, "I'm just giving you shit."
She wrapped her arm around my shoulders and pulled me back over next to her. I reached up and laced my fingers with her hand that was next to me.
"Can I ask you a random question?" She asked.
"I think you just did," I said as I glanced over at her.
She grinned and rolled her eyes at me before responding, "okay, how about another one then?"
"Go for it," I told her as I toyed with her fingers in between mine.
"I know you've said you're not really the relationship type," she started, "so what was with you and Tanner?"
"Damn, we're going there already, huh?" I said as I avoided eye contact.
If there was one thing that I didn't like to talk about, this was it.
"Sorry," Whitney said, "I mean you don't have to tell me, I'm just curious."
"It's fine," I said, "I guess we both kind of agreed to try it and see what happened, neither of us were taking it too seriously."
"Made it easier to break up with him," I continued with a shrug.
"Got it," she nodded, "you seem real broken up about it."
I looked over at her and she was grinning at me.
"Well..." I said, "it got me here, so yeah, not too upset."
"Okay that's fair," Whitney laughed, "but don't give me all of the credit for that breakup."
"Yeah I mean it was fine," I said, "I guess you being here just kind of rushed along the inevitable."
"The inevitable?" She asked.
"Okay so how about that dinner we were going to order?" I asked as I sat up from the couch.
Hopefully Whitney was going to catch the hint that I was done with this conversation.
"Right, I'll stop asking you questions now," she grinned.
"Thank you," I said as I let out a relieved sigh, "but I am actually pretty hungry too."
"Me too," she agreed, "want to just get pizza?"
"Sure that's fine," I said.
I was pretty sure that Whitney could sense how uncomfortable I'd gotten over the whole relationship conversation. I really had tried to get better about talking about it, but I wasn't quite there yet.
I had a lot to work on, I was well aware.
I had no idea where this thing with Whitney and I was going or what exactly it was. I didn't want to dive in to my relationship issues quite yet.
Whitney got up from the couch to grab her phone and order our dinner. We talked for a while as we waited for it to come, and thankfully she didn't ask any other questions that I didn't want to answer.
"You know," Whitney said as we started to eat our food that had just arrived, "I'm realizing that we really don't know much about each other, do we?"
"Nope," I said with a grin, "not really...we have kind of done things backwards, huh?"
"Yeah, maybe just a little bit," she agreed.
"Well, what do you want to know?" I asked her.
"I don't exactly have a list put together," Whitney grinned, "I'm just saying, it seems kind of weird."
"This whole situation is kind of weird," I said as I glanced up at her.
"Okay yeah, you're not wrong there," she said.
"But, the heart wants what it wants," I said sarcastically.
"You're so full of shit," Whitney said as she grinned over at me.
"It's all part of my charm," I responded.
"Uh huh," she said, "something like that."
"So do you have any other secret siblings or anything that I should know about, or is Austin the only one?" Whitney asked.
"Okay I didn't purposely not tell you about Austin, we'd barely talked at that point," I said defensively.
"I know," she said, "just making sure you don't have any others that I should make sure I don't sleep with."
"Oh is that why you want to know?" I asked as I raised my eyebrows and watched her smirk at me, "but no, he's the only one."
"And what about you?" I asked.
"Nope," she shook her head, "just me, no siblings."
"Hmm," I contemplated, "an only child...that really cuts down on my options."
She took the pillow off of the couch next to her and hit me on the shoulder as I flinched and almost dropped a slice of pizza.
"That totally would've been your fault if I dropped this on the couch," I said to her.
"But you didn't," she responded playfully.
We continued our conversation as we finished up dinner and I got ready to go back to my apartment.
"See," Whitney said as she walked me to the door, "we can still have fun together without doing certain activities."
"Is that all you were trying to prove?" I asked her.
"No," she laughed, "I'm just saying."
"I know, I know," I sighed, "point proven."
"See you in a few days at my office?" She asked as she put a hand on my waist.
I nodded as I leaned in and placed a slow kiss on her lips, still wishing that I had gotten more.
"See you soon," I said as I waved and walked out to the car.
I understood the point that Whitney was trying to make, but I didn't like that she thought that sex was all I was after. I guess I felt like that was partially true, but I really did like spending time with her too.
Apparently I just had to find a better way to show it. I couldn't help it that she was hot and I was horny.
As I drove home, I started to think about how things were going to be between us now when I went to work with her.
I wasn't sure if the torture that I endured before we had something going on between us, or the torture now that we had to hide the fact that there was something going on, would be worse.
I guess I'd find out soon enough.
