"Well that doesn't sound good at all," Tanner said as he sat back in his chair, "what's going on?"
"I um - I don't really think this is working anymore, between us I mean," I said.
I looked up at Tanner and he had a bit of a confused look on his face, but he didn't seem angry.
"You don't?" He asked, "why? Did I do something?"
"No, you didn't," I said calmly, "I'm just not really feeling the same way that I was before, and you know I'm still not much of a relationship person."
That and I think I'm falling for my professor, but we'd leave that part out.
"Well this doesn't have to be a relationship," he said, "I mean it barely was before, right?"
"I guess you are kind of right," I sighed, "but I don't think that's a good idea, I'm really sorry."
"Oh, okay," he said as he looked down at the table.
"I really am sorry, I just don't want to string you along or keep this going or anything if I'm not feeling it anymore," I said.
"No I get it," he nodded, "it's okay, really."
"Okay," I said, "well um, I'm probably just going to go then, but I'm sure I'll see you around."
"Yeah...sure, see you later Bailey," he said.
I pushed my chair back and got up from the table. I gave him one last look before I walked out, and it just made me feel even worse. I was surprised at how sad he seemed to be.
God damn it, well at least it was over with now.
I got back to my apartment a little bit later and flopped down on to the couch next to Gabbie. Kaia heard me come inside and joined us in the living room.
"You going to tell us what's going on now?" She asked.
"I suppose," I sighed, "Whitney and I kissed last night...and I just broke up with Tanner."
"Woah," Kaia said, "I don't know what I expected, but that was not it."
"So...what does that mean for you and Whitney then?" Gabbie asked.
"Oh that's the fun part," I said, "this morning she said it was just a drunken kiss that didn't mean anything."
"Damn," Kaia said as she raised her eyebrows, "that's harsh."
"Ya think?" I asked.
"I mean we were drunk," I continued, "but not so drunk that we didn't know what we were doing."
"So did you initiate it or did she?" Kaia asked.
"I did at first, but I pulled away pretty quickly and was trying to apologize, and then she kissed me and kept it going," I said.
"And you don't think she was telling the truth when she said it meant nothing, do you?" Gabbie asked.
"No..." I said hesitantly, "not really, but maybe I've been imagining things this whole time."
"Hold on," Kaia said, "I thought this was just a hook up thing and you were done with it."
"Well I - I mean I was, but now she's here and - yeah...I don't know," I responded.
"She needs to let us sleep together one more time so I can see if I just need to get it out of my system," I continued.
"Yeah I don't think that's what this is," Gabbie said as she eyed me suspiciously.
"Well I don't know what it is," I sighed, "but there's something there."
"If you just broke up with Tanner over it, then yeah I'd say it's something," Kaia said.
