jess insisted on playing with a pack of cards while they were studying, until he held them out for tori to pick a card and she threw them on the floor.

"quit asking me questions, jess, i'm not the one being quizzed. now, please tell me about the marshall plan," she pleaded.

"have you ever read 'please kill me?'"

"no."

"oral history of the punk movement. you'd like it. you can borrow it if you want."

she sighed, "i'm here to help you study. if you want me to go, i'll go but if i'm going to stay, then you'll stop distracting me. i have a lot on, so if you're going to do this then i'm leaving. understand?"

"i understand."

"good." she looked back down at her work. "and yes, i would like to borrow it. thank you very much. now open your book."

he did as she said and when she let her eyes fall back onto her work once more, he flicked through the pages, watching her carefully.

"quit staring," she grumbled.

later into studying, she asked him to write down some shakespeare, only for him to write down a clash song and give her a time limit to guess. she did. it was guns of brixton.

she handed him back the notebook, "why would you even agree to this studying thing in the first place?"

"'cause luke said i had to."

"you've never done anything because someone said you had to."

"i moved here because someone said i had to."

"that's very different."

"yeah, well..." he began picking at the pie in front of them. "hey do you wanna get out of here?"

"what?"

he stood up, "i'm sick of studying."

"how can you be sick of studying. you haven't done any studying. you've done card tricks, you've made coffee and you've developed a staring problem and it's making me think i have pie smeared across my face or something."

he was stood by the window, glancing out of the blinds, "that's your car?"

"yes it is. anna sold it to me."

he walked back over to her, "okay, i'll tell you what. let's go get some ice cream, and then when we get back, i'll study."

"this is a diner, there's ice cream here."

"yes but we don't have any cones"

"cones."

"i need cones."

she shifted in her seat, "so, if we go get ice cream-"

"-in cones-"

"-then you'll be a perfect student for the rest of the night?"
