unfortunately for tori and jess, jess left the house just as lorelai pulled in. she watched his car drive away and felt her heart sink. it wasn't that she didn't trust her daughter and know that teenagers messed around but she hated the idea that tori, who had so much potential, who could run the country if she put her mind to it, would end up like her. she wanted her daughter to do what she wanted, be who she wanted. she couldn't do that if she was pregnant. not really. not in lorelai's mind.

tori noticed what had just happened, rushing back to her room in the hopes that rory's soon to be arrival would distract her enough that she wouldn't be thinking the worst.

rory didn't arrive home quick enough.

"why did i just see jess pull out of our driveway?" lorelai asked as soon as she found her youngest daughter.

tori put down her book, "how was new york?"

"nice deflection. tori?"

she sighed, "he stayed the night. nothing happened, i swear. we watched crappy tv and ate snacks and then we lay in bed and read books until we fell asleep and now he's going to work. that's all. i promise."

lorelai nodded, choosing to believe her daughter, "okay."

"but rory and i had an argument," she admitted.

"what?"

so, tori explained the fight to her mom. lorelai nodded, agreeing that rory should have waited to confront jess about his black eye. she placed a hand on her daughter's arm, smiling sadly.

"wanna choose the takeout tonight?" she offered.

"please."

"i'll talk to rory, okay?"

"okay. thanks."

---

tori went to pick up their al's orders, jess rushing outside to meet her right after, finishing with his customer.

"your mom's home then," he commented, gesturing to the large paper bags she was holding.

she nodded, lifting the bags slightly higher, "i'm bringing supplies. plus i had to replace the snacks we ate."

"she was okay then?" he asked.

she nodded, "she trusts us."

"you mean you?"

"yeah." she took a deep breath. "i'm really sorry about last night. i know i apologised already but rory was really out of line and i hate that she automatically thought you got into a fight."

"yeah, well, dean really hates me."

"i know but they're broken up. it just sucks because it actually seemed like emily was trying to get to know me a little bit after everything and rory ruined it," she admitted. "i know i accused her of doing it on purpose but i know she wouldn't actually do that, it just sucked."
