lorelai had summoned tori to her bedroom the morning she was meant to go to new york. once she helped her pick her outfit to travel in, they began going over how that evening was going to work.

"so, um, how are you guys working the logistics tonight?" she asked.

"rory and i are going to study at school, then we're going straight to grandma's from there. jess is driving from work, then he's driving me home because rory mentioned staying at grandma's because of some council thing tomorrow morning paris is making her do."

"rory's staying in hertford? and jess is driving you home? home, here?" lorelai sought.

"yeah, he's gonna drop me off here," she repeated.

"well, i guess that makes sense."

tori frowned, "i thought so."

"although, i don't know."

"what?"

"are you sure that's the best way to do it?"

she nodded, "yeah, why?"

"well, it just means you're coming home to an empty house," lorelai continued.

"but that's your doing, not mine," she told. "rory can't help having student council."

lorelai continued to grab her things, "yeah but it might be lonely here. did you think about staying at mom's?"

"overnight?"

"yeah. they've got those fancy beds that don't sag, and you're guaranteed a great norma desmond style breakfast the next morning. you don't have school. it works out perfectly."

tori's eyes narrowed, "i'd rather just come home."

"okay. sure. but you know, staying at your grandmother's would also mean that jess wouldn't have to go out of his way at the end of the night to drop you off. it would be much more convenient for him," she tried.

tori picked up on exactly what she was worried about, "he can just stay here then."

"what?"

"yeah, i mean i have a double bed, he can just stay in my room, with me," she teased. she took in lorelai's horrified look. "mom, chill. i'm messing with you. are you freaked because you won't be here and he will?"

"uh, yeah, that's crossed my mind."

tori folded her arms, "and what are you worried about happening?"

"well, what you guys were on the on-ramp for up at luke's the other day, your basic boy/girl stuff," she admitted.

tori rolled her eyes, "i have so much on my mind, so many things going on, that i don't even have time to think about... that."

"no thinking, at all?"

she shook her head, "i'm not ready for that, i told you, so no, none. i swear."
