tori's mind was reeling

tori's mind was reeling. it had been like that all weekend. with rory still not talking to her, she was getting angrier by the second. she was the one who had ruined dinner. she was the one adamant jess was a bad guy, blind to the fact dean wasn't exactly a saint. dean was controlling, annoying and misogynistic. except rory couldn't and wouldn't see that. scratch the angry part, she was livid.

but she wasn't going to break the silence. no way. she had done nothing wrong, except retaliating with anger. she was not going to apologise for that. she had a right to be mad.

that anger was making navigating luke's a lot harder than before but since jess worked most mornings, she spent her time at the counter, talking to him.

lorelai was desperately trying to get the pair to make up but she'd raised two stubborn daughters. (one maybe a little more stubborn than the other).

"the hockey final is this saturday, wanna go?" tori asked, leaning her elbow against the counter, resting her head in her hand.

jess stared at her, raising a brow.

"okay. never mind. sadie and jas wanted to make it a double date," she told. "but i'll tell them i'm third wheeling."

"i don't really want to watch dean playing sport," he admitted.

she shook her head, bright smile making it's way on to her face, "you're thinking about this all wrong. you get to see dean get shoved and punched. hockey is violent, jess. extremely so. more than soccer."

"you've given three girls nose bleeds, i doubt that."

she scoffed, "not on pur-" she trailed off, noticing the look jess was sending her. "okay, fine. i see your point but let me know if you change your mind."

"i will," he assured.

she leant forward, pecking his lips, "i gotta get to school and so do you."

"learn lots."

"always."

avoiding rory was easier on the bus. tori sat, walkman in and book in hand. she put her bag on the seat and re-read little women. it was her comfort book. she needed some comfort after everything.

---

tori was a little annoyed that the town was ecstatic about the hockey team making a final for the first time in years when her soccer team had won the year before and was on track to win another season.

she knew they weren't stars hollow but with the way the town worshipped rory's achievements at chilton, she'd figured there'd be something.

she pouted slightly before jess handed her order to her.

"oh, muffins! thank you. see you later?" she sought.

he looked into her eyes, knowing he couldn't say no to her, "see you later."
