Car lights flashed into her eyes. She brought her arm up to her face to shut them away from the light. He heart war beating rapidly fast. She's been sitting on the dock, lit by a small light since Jacob left her there.

As she cried, she decided to walk home in the morning as stay there for the night, hoping nothing would happen to her.

A car pulled up not to far from where she was. She sighed in relief when she saw who got out of the driver seat.

"Danielle? Are you okay? What happened?" Cameron rushed to where she was sitting, getting down on his knees to see if he was injured in any way.

"Can you call Steven, please?" She asked in a whisper tone.

"Steven? Steven Conklin?" Cam asked. "You don't wat me to call you mom or one of your brothers?"

"No, no I-I need Steven, please." She firmly said. Cam nodded at her and got up from his place, walking back towards his car to get his phone. As he walk talking with Steven on the phone, Danielle was sitting on the edge, trying to remain calm.

Steven was on the way to get her. Steven was on his way to help her.

"Steven's on his way." Cameron said as he walked back and sat next to her.

"Thank you, Cameron. I really appreciate this."

"Are you hurt? You don't need to say anything if you don't want to. I'm just curious."

"I'm alright, thanks." She let out a loud exhale. "How's thing between you and Belly?" She wanted to change the subject of the conversation they were having.

"Not the way I wanted it to go. I can't really blame her, though. For linking two guys who are better than me. It just hurts, you know?"

"Cam, my brothers arent any better than you, in any way shape or form. And Belly, fuck, I haven't spoke to her for a hot minute." Danielle realized that she hasn't really spoken to Belly since she caught her and Steven kissing at the party. "I don't think she ever really ment to hurt you. She's just very self-centered most times."

"Thank you, Danielle. I really hope you're right on this." Cam sighed.

"Uh, I don't want you out here all night, Cam. I'll be fine, you can go."

"Are you sure? I don't really mind staying."

"I'm okay. I mean Steven is on his way here." Saying that healed her heart a little bit. She was certain that he wouldn't let her down, especially during something like this. Cam smiled at her and walked back to his car, waving at her as he got back on the road.

A few minutes after Cam left, Steven's car pulled up where Cam's was before. Danielle imidiatlly got up as soon as she saw the car.

"Danielle!" He shouted when he saw her. She ran straight towards him and threw her arm around him.

She began to sob as soon as he held her in his arms, knowing that something went wrong during her date.

"Oh, princess," He whispered. The nickname finally coming out of the right persons mouth.

"I feel like such an idiot." She muttered against his chest. "He wanted to- a-and I didn't want- Steven I didn't want to. A-And a slapped him and he apologized- a-and-"

"Hey, hey, you're not an idiot." He lifted her chin up with his pointer finger. "I'm right here, Dani. You're safe now."

"I was really scared, Steven. He left me on the spot and I didn't know what to do." Danielle said, wiping away her tears on her cheeks. "Now I don't have an escort to the ball."

The two were in the back of Steven's car, still bing parked by the dock. Danielle's back was resting on his chest with his arms wrapped around her waist. She was able to feel his heart beat through her back as she was playing with the hem of his hoodie sleeves. They were talking for some time, as the sky was turning pink and orange.

"I want to be your escort, August." Steven told her. "I have since the very first moment you wanted to be a deb."

"Well, what about Shayla?" She was a little afrais of asking that question.

"We broke up a few nights ago."

"It's my fault, isn't it?" She asked with a sudden sense of guilt.

"Technically, I broke up with her. I lied because I couldn't afford a super fancy and expensive tux she wanted me to wear. And we just... we weren't connecting anymore." Danielle swore that her heart skipped a beat. They stayed silent for a while. The silence was filled with chirps of early birds and the waves from the ocean.

"Can I tell you something, Stevie?"

"Of course, princess." His heart began to beat faster, Danielle was able to feel it. She grabbed his hands and laced their fingers together.

"I think I love you," She whispered. "And I think I always have."
