"Meet the terrible terror," Gobbler announcers as he pushes up the opening of the small door. A green lizard looking thing comes crawling out. "Ha, it's like the size of my-," but before Tuff can finish his thought the dragon jumps at him. He falls to the floor crying out in pain as the small beast bites at his nose. His twin runs over to try and help him as Snotlout laughs his ass off. "Hey Freya, you're not gonna tell anyone about," he pauses and looks around before lowering his voice, "toothless?" This makes me blow up. "You named it!" I scream at him and I turn realizing everyone's now looking at us.
"Talk to me again and I will make you into a pin cushion!" I scream as I flip my dagger from hand to hand gracefully from how much practice I've been getting with it. I bring the knife up close to Hiccup whose eyes are wide with fear. I look around and everyone's focused back on Ruff and Tuff, everyone but Astrid who's glaring at the two of us with determined eyes. "Meet me at the large boulder that's in the way to your friend," I say the last part sarcastically. I use my other hand to shove him away hard before I turn and walk back over to the other teens.
Ruff is holding the dragons and trying to pull it away from her brother but it's latched on good. A small light goes to the ground beside the twins and the dragon detaches from the lanky twins. The light moves slightly as the dragon tries to catch it. "What the?" I'm confused until I see where the lights coming from. Hiccups reflecting the sun off of his shield and the dragons following it. "Damn, he's better then you ever where," Tuff teases Astrid once he stand back up. His nose and face is all red and covered in scratches but he seems fine. She sends an elbow to his gut and he hunches over.
The terrible terror ends up scurrying back into its to large cage. Hiccup turns to face the large crowd above us with an embarrassed smile. The crowd of adults that stayed back break into cheers. A small crowd of young girls chant his name and I roll my eyes. He's not good in the normal Viking way. Whatever he's been doing is different and weird and I don't see the appeal from everyone.
As soon as Gobber dismisses us I leave. I don't want to be around Astrid when she's angry. She likes to pick fights and cause problems to let off steam and it never ends well.
I head straight to the forest and to the large boulder and wait. After a few minutes the thought that maybe Hiccup is lost crosses my mind. There aren't that many large boulders in the wood let alone on the way to his friend but I can see horrible Hiccup getting lost at this simple mundane task. A twig snaps and I turn relived that he's finally here. "You're late," I feel him to hide my relief. He blushes bright red, "sorry, I got held up by your cousin. She doesn't like me does she." I smile at that. "No, she hates you, but she hates everyone," I add when his face morphs into one filled with worry.
"She really hates you now that your competition," I explains and he looks up shocked. "She was only ever worried about me and now you're here with your fancy tricks." I hop off of the boulder and start heading in the direction of the dragon. "Talk." I order and he chases to catch up to me. "What do you you mean- I uh," he stutters coming to stand infront of me. "Why are you doing this? Why didn't you just kill it?" I ask while pointing my finger at his chest. He looks watches my finger before looking up at me.
"When I saw him, I saw myself. I-I couldn't he, he-he wasn't some monster that I was told about, he was real. Has feelings and emotions, he's-" Hiccups voice cracks and he looks away from me and takes a deep breath. Normally I would roll my eyes at this dramatic behavior but for some reason I can't seem to. "Let me show you," he says sticking his hand out for me. I look down at what I would assume to be unwashed fingered but they're actually really clean. Possibly cleaner than my own which surprises me. I glare at his hands now suddenly annoyed at this walking stick and he retracts his hands. "Fine," I retort as he starts to walk away defeatedly. "I'll go meet, Toothless."
Sliding under the shield is less daunting this time now that I'm prepared for what's on the other side. "Toothless!" Hiccup calls for the black dragon and he comes pounding over from the far side of the lake. On instinct I grip my ax tightly but the dragon still comes right up to us. He buts Hiccup who runs a hand over his head, "This is Freya," he introduces and the dragon turns to me and smiles. I look between the smiling dragon and his rider with a confused look. "He smiles now? What the-" but before I can finish my curse the dragon starts to sniff me again like he did yesterday. I'm still holding the ax but this dragon seems to have no fear.
"I'm literally holding a weapon. I could kill you," I try and explain but he ignores me. He nibbles at the fur on my skirt and I push him away. "Ew, I don't want slobber on me." I look up to Hiccup who's watching us with amusement. "Fine," I throw my ax into a nearby tree since I clearly don't need it. "So you ride him?" I ask looking at the saddle and stirrups on this large dragon. "Ahh, ride is such a delicate word," Hiccup explains while shrugging his shoulders. "We're still figuring out how everything works," he explains as Toothless pounces on him knocking him over. I small laugh escapes before I can swallow it and they both turn to face me wearing the same shocked expression.
"Why doesn't he fly away?" I ask changing the subject. I look at the dragon and his gummy smile and raise by brows at him. This causes the dragon to try and do the same back. He only ends up winking at me and I snort out a laugh. "His tail," Hiccup drawls and I let my eyes drift down the dragon to his black and brown tail. "You made a tail for him?" I turn back to Hiccup who's blushing. "When I shot him down he- but I fixed it. He can fly now but he just needs is someone to ride him." I turn back to the goofy beast who pounces back over to me.
Standing on all four legs makes him about the height of my waist. He just stands in front of me and nods his head toward me. "Wh-what does he want?" I ask turning to face Hiccup. "He wants you to pet him," the boy sheepishly replies and I look down at this dragon in horror. "You want me to pet this dragon, like he's my pet?" I'm astonished by how crazy this all is and I'm even more surprised when I lift my hand up. I don't move it to touch Toothless but he moves his snout up to meet my hand. His skin is cold and hard. I can feel the bumps from the scales and am slightly surprised that he's not all slimy and moist.
The large dragon almost purrs as I let my hand run under his chin. "Okay, I am petting you now, Odin, feel free to shoot me down," I call and Hiccup laughs at my sarcasm. "Who would have thought Freya the frightening would be petting a dragon," he teases and I send him a teasing glare back. He must not realize it's all jokes because he turns red and looks away from me and his dragon. "You need to chill out, despite what people think I'm not always mean," I explain and the stick boy blushes even redder.
"What are you doing to do with him? The adults come back tomorrow and I have a feeling any one of them will jump at the chance to gut him," I tell Hiccup and I feel the dragon tense. "Don't worry, I won't let anyone kill too," I whisper to the black dragon as I crouch to be face to face with him. I realize after a moment passes that I don't know if it's the truth. If it comes down to it I'm actually not sure what I'll do. He starts to purr again and lean close to me. "Lick me and I will chop off your tongue," I threaten when he opens his mouth. He seems to understand my threat and closes his mouth. "Good boy," I pat his head before standing.
