Being home was much worse then being out with all the cheer. If I was surrounded by happy jolly filled Vikings then I could almost pretend that the holidays weren't that bad, but being home it was impossible. There was no way to escape all the decorations that belonged to my mom that Astrid forced us to put up, or to escape the gloom that my father brought in anytime he came home, and definitely no way to ignore the fact he wouldn't even look at me.
He still cannot understand how dragons are our friends and no longer are trying to hurt us. And he hates that not only do I have a dragon, but that I was a co-conspiracists in the dragon fight. While all the other teens came home to grand Viking dinners to celebrate their bravery and sacrifice, Astrid and I came home to a dark house with an even darker Viking.
I climb down my ladder as Mock climbs out the window to avoid facing the silent wrath emitting from my father. "I'm going out," I announce to the older man eating. He doesn't spare a second to look at me and I nod before heading outside. The cold air hits be as soon as I shut the door. I tighten my fur coat sprung me before heading towards the stairs to get to the center of town, even though we're not going there, we're going to head to the woods.
Mock gurgles out next to me probably feeling the cold too and I roll my eyes. "Aren't you such a baby," I tease but he must not like it cause he coughs smoke into my face. "Ew," I groan out as I close my eyes waiting for it to stop. "I like the new look," another voice joins in making Mock laugh. I quickly wipe off any residue before turning to the new voice. "Nice wood?" I change the topic to the long planks he's carrying.
"Just helping me dad," he flushes shrugging. "Hey Mock." My dragon instantly smiles to the smaller boy before bowing his head indicating he wants to be pet. "Oh yeah, go ahead and be polite you little demon," I bite out earning a quick sweep from his tail making me fall to the ground. "Shit!" I curse knowing my butt will definitely be bruised.
Hiccup lets out a laugh as I struggle to get up in the ice cobblestone. I glare towards my dragons who's gurgling out a laugh with the teen boy. "Let's go," I nod to my dragon not giving either of the guys another glance. I head over to Gobber who's sharpening an array of tools while whistling. I head the loud footsteps of my dragon from behind and I let myself smile knowing he listened to me and followed. "Hey Gobber-" the old man screams with his arms flying into the it letting the ax he was sharpening go. I duck as it sores over my hand missing Mock by near inches.
The purple dragons head snaps to Gobber with a warning growl. "Sorry there lass," he apologies with his wooden hand over his heart. "Oh! You scared me." I roll my eyes as I walk towards the discarded that's stuck into a thick layer of ice. "Yeah, cause an ax totally wasn't flung at my head," I bite out under my breath before plastering a fake smile on. "How's my new saddle coming?"
Before the holiday season I had Mock help me design a new saddle since the one we had been using was rubbing on his belly making a rash. I gave Gobber the drawing a measurements weeks ago, it should be done. "Oh, yeah- the seat," he blubbers out his make turning red and I realize he forgot about it. Again. "Gobber I can just make it myself, it's not like I'm doing anything else," I offer trying to keep any annoyance off of my face. Mock doesn't even try to stay calm and shoots a warning shot above the old man's head.
"Hey! Calm down there ye beast," he turns to me after having a glaring showdown with my dragon. "It's almost done, I just have a few-" but before he can finish a scream echos through the town square a a large borne object comes hurtling past.
"Help?" Hiccup screams when he sees me and Mock and I raise by brow unimpressed. I turn back to Gobber who seems a little too pleased that I will have to leave. "Better go help the boy, don't want to loose him, dragon whisperer and all," I roll my eyes before hopping into Mock "Gobber," I turn to the man with a glare. "I want my seat." I bite out loosing all politeness in my tone before Mock takes off after Meatlug.

Meatlug swerves into mock who lashes out almost biting the smaller dragon. "Hey!" I scold knowing Fishlegs would be sad if his dragon comes back missing an arm. "What's wrong with him?" I ask Hiccup who's holding into the Gronkle for dear life. "I'm not sure, it's like he's being controlled or something," He explains and I nod before turning back towards the incoming foggy sea stacks we flying towards.
"Wherever we're going better be worth it, I had plans to do today and they didn't involve flying of of the face of the archipelago with a bunch of idiots," I explain before I can stop myself. "No offense," I add afterwards which makes Hiccup laugh with a roll of his eyes. "I still can't believe Fishlegs basically held his dragon captive," I snort out a laugh thinking of the large boys face when we left Berk. "I'm sure Astrid is chewing him out right now." Hiccup nods in agreement.
The dragons duck under a sea stack as the fog engulfs is fully. "If there's another giant boss dragon we're heading towards I'm seriously going to fly off the ends of the earth-" I deadpan looking around manically hoping to not see a giant fucking eye or bludgeoning tail. "No this seems to be something different. This is some other kind of inner dragon instinct we're following." I look down to mock rainy my eyebrows, "Why didn't you feel this instinct?" He growls out an insult making Hiccup laugh.
We fly for what feels like hours before the sea stacks become sparse and the fog starts to lift. "You think he's just having a psychotic break from having to deal with Fishlegs?" I finally ask and I earn a chuckle from Hiccup which makes me smile. "But for real, could he just be flying with no end plan?" He seems to ponder this for a while before do salt answering me. "It's possible, but what about all the other dr- oh Thor!" My head snaps forward as a small island comes into view.
The small island has a large gulf protected almost fully by land with a small sandy opening for water to get in. It honestly looks like a tropical oasis and the weather here definitely feels warmer than back home. As we start to slow and the wind moves past us slower I feel the need to take off my outer layer. "This is insane!" I gawk as Mock follows Meatlug down towards the rocky shore and lands with a thud. Hiccup had a less gracefully land and almost gets thrown forward making me snicker.
I follow the boy towards the edge of the rocky over hang we landed on and look out at the hundreds of dragons lounging. "So they took a vacation?" I ask as I watch the steam come up off of the hot spring gulf. "Wait are those?" I ask once I get a closer look at all the moving dragons. "Babies!" Hiccup finishes for me more shocked than myself. Mock growls out and I know he's rolling his eyes clearly not as impressed as us. "Did you know about this?" I turn to the purple dragon and he sits down with a deadpan look as if telling me he obviously did.
I turn back towards all the dragons just as I see Hiccup start to scale down the rocky edge. "Yes, let's get close to all these territorial mothers and they babies. Now that's a smart idea," I groan throwing my hands in the air annoyed before following after him. "Keep an eye out Mock I don't want to get eaten," I order to my dragon who in turn flies off leaving me stranded. "Thanks." I yell to him.
I slip on my first step down the hill and slide the rest of the way on my but. "Ow," I groan out as I sit up rubbing the back of my head. I look down and see Deadly-Nadder babies and Gronkle babies playing fighting next to me. They get slightly too close and end up bumping into me. It startles the smallest one who lets out a shocked puff of smoke making me laugh.
"Hey look over her, you missed one," Hiccup says and I look up thinking he's talking to me before realizing he's talking to the Gronkle mom. "Maybe stay away fro-" the egg Hiccup was examining explodes in his face sending him flying back next to me "the egg." I finish as I watch the tiny dragons run off startled by the loud noise.
The tiny Gronkle stretches and groans and I almost admit it's cute but then I rember loudmouth Hiccup is sitting next to me. "Wow, it's a good thing those things don't hatch on Berk," he smiles while looking at me and I raise my eyebrows. "Wow, really deductive." The sarcasm flows out as I look back towards the small baby who's now being fed fish from its mother. That sight is much less adorable and I scrunch up my nose not liking the sound of regergateded seafood.
