I had always been patient and detached. I cared about my family, sort of. And I knew waiting was something that had to do with life. But waiting for Horrible Hiccup Haddock to wake up felt like an eternity. What only took two weeks felt like a year. Gothi has promised everyone he would wake up, that his body just needed time to heal. I told Toothless that since he was so skinny and weak it would take twice as long to heal. What was originally a joke turned out to be true.

Toothless rarely left his riders side. I tried to visit at least once daily with Mock to see Toothless and give him some attention. I would always try and get Toothless to leave and go for a walk, or even let me fly him around the island but he refused. He left maybe one or twice a day and never when I was around.

They say change takes time and is slow coming but not this change. As soon as we got back everyone seemed to want a dragon. So now if there were raids we didn't shoot the dragons, we simply fed them and befriended them. With Hiccup out of commission the weight of the whole ordeal fell to Astrid and I's shoulders. We had both knew about Toothless before everyone else and we had bonded with our dragons better than anyone else.  Mockfire is a moody bitch that I think hates me half the time but he's always there watching me throughout the day.

The news spread fast that the hero of the day was now one legged. Everyone was sending their condolences to the Chief which I could tell fed his ego to no end. But he did seem to change the most. He seemed more friendly and was very helpful with dealing with difficult people wanting a special dragon as they put it.

My father let me move back in. Well didn't say anything when Astrid took me home for dinner one night. He doesn't talk to me much anymore, I'm not sure even if he likes dragons. He doesn't seem to want one and ignores Mockfire anytime they see one another. Astrid thinks he just needs to get used to it but I think he seriously hates new Berk and me for helping changing it.

"Let's take one more lap around the Island dude," I more of ask then tell Mock who seems to never want to do things when I order them. He growls out and I can imagine he's secretly smiling. Mock dives down closer to the water. The water on this side of the island is so still that I can see my reflection into. I can see the messy brown hair that is always frizzy and I see the freckles dotting across my cheeks and up my nose. I see Mockfire checking himself out too which makes me smile. We make eye contact though the mirror like water and his eye harden with embarrassment.

I let out a full laugh feeling really happy with everything and Mockfire in response dips his wing slightly in the water. At first I only get a sprinkle of drops but as he dips down farther it turns into a whole shower. "Ass," I yell while smelling him on the back. He growls out a laugh as he straighten up so we're not so close to the water.

He gains altitude as we pass the right side of the Island and I start to see houses as we leave the uninhabited part of the island. We got closer to the Village and I see people gathered at the Chief house. "Is he awake?" I ask Mockfire hoping he can see. He doesn't respond as he dips down towards the people. The closer we get the more people I recognize, including a small walking fish bone. I feel myself start to smile as Mock gets closer to the people. Once they notice us they move out of the way. Even though dragons are our friends now I don't think anyone considers Mock to be a friendly dragon.

Once I'm low enough I jump off his back and land running so I don't fall embarrassingly in front of all these people. Astrid already here with a goofy smile on her face matching the one Hiccups wearing. "You goddam some of a psychopath, danger loving, bitch!" I scream as I approach the skinny boy. His smile leaves his face and he looks almost scared as I stomp over to him. A few of the men in the crowd laugh at our interaction which causes Hiccup to get all flustered. "I thought you died!" I scream as I pull him in for a hug. I'd he's bothered by me slightly dampness he doesn't say anything, just tightens his arms around me.

The hug with Astrid I hoped wouldn't be our last but I have a feeling that this will be Hiccup and I's actual last hug. "You really need to get over this hero complex tools." He laughs at this along with his dad as I pull away.

"Night fury! Get down!" Someone yells and I feel myself reach for my dagger nervously before remembering Toothless is safe. The black dragon appears from behind the large crowd. Instead of walking though he jumps over and sends most of them to the ground with groans. I see Hiccup fluster which makes me laugh. "Toothless never left your side when you were healing. No matter how much begging Astrid and I gave him," I explains as the clumsy dragon jumps his owner. They both fall to the ground and while Hiccup groans out in pain, Toothless lets out a high gurgling laugh.

"Welcome home," Gobber walks up finally joining us. He hands Hiccup a new tail for Toothless. He had copied all the notes Hiccup had written down when he made the original tail. "Thank you," the boy sighs out as he takes the large machine. Gobber painted it red to stand out against the black of Toothless. For being suck a harsh man he certainly knows how to make things appealing.

"You ready to fly, bud?" Hiccups asks even though he already knows the answer. Toothless hops around before opening his tail for Hiccup to attach the machine. "Mock!" I call which still causes Hiccup to laugh and I slightly kick him with my foot. "Hey! Injured," he points or himself and I roll my eyes. "Then it'll be hard for you to keep up!" I tease and his eyes narrow with the challenge. "We'll see."
