"Would you like anything else?" The waitress asked as she came back to your table, noticing the barely touched food on your plate.
Sitting in the corner of the restaurant in the dim lighting, you stared across the booth where Chaeryeong once sat.
There was a hole inside your heart each time you thought back to the time you spent together and even though some time has passed since your time together ended, you still haven't been able to move on.
"Miss?" The waitress spoke.
You gasped over the feeling of her reaching out to tap your shoulder lightly because you had been so caught up in your thoughts.
"I'm fine. Thank you."
She walked away and you closed your eyes with a heavy sigh as you put your head back against the wall.
"What a sad sight." One waitress said to the one that had been waiting on you.
"She's always here." Your waitress replied.
"I know. I mean, come on. Breakups happen everyday. You don't have to lose it. So dramatic."
"I figured by now, she'd find somewhere else. Maybe she'd find some perspective. But she's still here. Where she was left."
You cleared your throat and stared at your glass of water before stirring your straw around in it, watching the cubes move around in the cup as you did so.
You know they're right; it has to be a sad sight to see someone frozen in time, still stuck inside their fantasy and delusion.
But you can't help it.
Lost in your thoughts, you ignored the stares from the waitresses and everything around you faded away as you thought back to that night.
It was a while ago, though it still feels like yesterday.
You still remember the last time you and Chaeryeong were here.
When you close your eyes, you can still see every beautiful feature of hers from her long dark hair to those brown eyes that made you melt every time you caught a glimpse of them.
You still remember what she wore and the touch of her hand across yours as you stared at the menu and realized she'd been trying to get your attention.
"Y/N?"
"Yeah?" You spoke with a little smile.
"We need to talk."
"Oh? About what?" You wondered.
She took a breath and pulled her hand away from yours before closing her menu.
"What's going on?" You asked with a nervous chuckle.
For a moment, everything was just right.
Sitting there cross-legged in the romantic lighting, you felt as if nothing could be better.
But that moment didn't last long and when it ended, you were crushed.
"I met someone."
Right away, it was like your soul left your body.
This was all you'd ever known; life and love with Chaeryeong, whom you thought you'd end up spending your whole life with.
Going from friends to marriage and a family someday was all you ever pictured with her.
You never saw an end, never thought there'd be something or someone to ruin those plans and those fantasies inside your head.
But now, there's a lump in your throat and your heart is sinking in your chest as you struggle to find the words to say.
"What?"
"I met someone. Someone else." She said with a shaky breath. "I know this is hard to hear..."
The mascara began to run, the makeup quickly falling down your cheeks with your tears.
"I'm sorry."
That was it.
Just like that, your world fell apart.
Glass shattered on the white cloth, the walls closed in, your world came to an end, and you became frozen in time and place.
You remember her telling you more than that as she tried to explain the reasoning behind her decision but it didn't register for you, it was just in one ear and out the other.
It didn't matter all that much what else was said when she'd just thrown you to the side, right?
When she had just crushed your hopes, your dreams, your life, and acted as if it was no big deal... right?
Each time the bells on the door jingle as someone steps inside, even now, part of you hopes that it's her.
That, perhaps, she was walking by or she just knew you'd be here, right where she left you, and she'd come in and tell you that it was just a huge mistake.
But that was part of your delusion and fantasy.
Deep down, you know that's not going to happen.
She made her mind up that day when she left you here.
Since then, the dust has gathered on your pinned-up hair, your heart hasn't healed, and you find yourself frozen.
No matter how hard you try, you can't move on.
Despite knowing that she's probably got a wife out there... kids and Christmas, too.
But part of you hopes that's not true and that, if she ever feels she got it wrong, she'll find you here; right where she left you.
Where you'll always be.
