"Is today the day we're playing that practice match against Shiratorizawa?"

Kindaichi sat on a nearby rest bench with his hands clasped under his chin, his face serious as he spoke in a low voice.

"Hmm... What, are you scared?" Yahaba Shigeru stood in front of him with a cheerful smile, one hand on his hip.

"H-Ha! No way! We lost to Karasuno last time because Oikawa-senpai happened to be absent. This time, this time we definitely won't lose!" Kindaichi straightened his chest, forced a couple of laughs, and spoke righteously.

"Well... even if Kobayashi Aotori is also playing?" Yahaba Shigeru pretended to look troubled, rubbing his chin.

Sure enough, Kindaichi, who had been standing tall and proud, instantly lost his color, his shoulders slumping quickly as he wilted.

This sight greatly pleased Yahaba Shigeru, and he laughed heartily.

"Alright, stop teasing Kindaichi." A stern voice interrupted, and seeing Iwaizumi standing behind, Yahaba quickly stopped laughing and awkwardly scratched his head. "I got it."

However, even though Yahaba's laughter ceased, Kindaichi's dejection seemed to persist.

Iwaizumi crossed his arms, looking at the seemingly soulless Kindaichi with a headache. Of course, he knew exactly who was responsible for Kindaichi ending up like this.

—Kobayashi Aotori.

He had privately watched the match between Kitagawa Daiichi and Kousen Academy from the previous year. It can be said that each member of Kitagawa Daiichi was strong individually, but the overall strength of Kousen Academy wasn't particularly outstanding.

Although it might be inappropriate to say, in a certain sense, Kobayashi Aotori alone crushed the Kitagawa Daiichi at that time.

He remembered that during that match, Kobayashi Aotori's gaze was fixed solely on the opposing player, Tobio Kageyama, throughout the entire game, with a not-so-serious smile on his face... ah, such a description is actually quite polite.

Frankly speaking, it was like watching adults look down on children playing games, truly quite impolite.

Moreover, after Kageyama Tobio left the court, Kobayashi Aotori's amusement and boredom were plainly evident on his face. Every move thereafter was executed cleanly and efficiently, devoid of the previous playful variety, as if he had had his fill and finally "decided" to end the game.

And after the match ended, he left the national tournament that countless teams dreamt of participating in without a hint of regret, even making such remarks in front of the camera...
