Jan sighed and stood up, his chair scraping against the hardwood floor. "I'm so sorry for my brother's behavior. Please, don't mind his words. You, as my wife's sister, are always welcome in our home."

Leila offered a small, sympathetic smile. "Oh, no, it's alright. I understand. I know things can be difficult, but I believe Emre will come around in time."

She gently chewed on her lower lip, her brow furrowed in contemplation. "After all, it's not entirely his fault that he is this way."

Jan nodded, his eyes dropping to the floor. "You're right. As humans, we tend to cling so tightly to those we love. And when we lose them, we become hateful, consumed by that pain."

He paused, taking a deep breath. "Emre, he just wanted our baba's love. But baba was too engrossed in his own grief over losing our mother. By the time he finally turned his attention to Emre, it was too late. And our stepmother, she was just another woman longing for her husband's affection and attention, which she never received."

Jan looked up, his gaze meeting Leila's. "Everyone is a victim of their own circumstances, aren't they? We're all just trying to find our way, to heal from the wounds life has inflicted upon us."

Leila gave a tiny smile at the depth of Jan's words. But Sanem had a big frown on her face, "Are you justifying your brother's crime?"

"I'm not justifying it, I'm just telling the truth you guys needed to hear. Emre wasn't born like that. He could have been a wonderful person if things were better in his past," Jan replied, his voice laced with empathy.

"At least he had a roof over his house and food on his table," Sanem curtly replied. "Leila gave him a kidney and he paid her back by ditching her over her face for that good-for-nothing Aiyleen. It's still unforgivable whatever he did."

"Psst, Sanem, take a breath. I have forgiven him," Leila replied, her eyes shining with understanding. "Just look, the beginning was so bitter, that's the reason the ending is so beautiful. I got betrayed by him, but God sent someone better for me. I have Osman by my side now."

"Well, if you say so," Sanem purred, the corners of her mouth lifting in a reluctant smile.

Leila embraced Sanem tightly, patting her back. "Take care of yourself, sis. And don't be too restless. Remember, you're pregnant now. Be good to Jan. He loves you so much."

Sanem pouted, "I'll try my best." Leila looked weary as she cupped Sanem's face. "Don't be a headache for him. Things are better now, so let them be. I assure you, Sanem, no one can love you like Jan does."

Tears brimmed in Sanem's eyes. "You're making me feel so small and selfish before him. I love him just as much as he loves me."

Leila clicked her tongue. "I'm not trying to compare you, Sanem. I'm just telling you something. You've found a gem, so handle him preciously."

Leila glanced at Jan, who was engrossed in a phone conversation. Sanem followed her gaze, her heart swelling with love and gratitude.

But for some reason, Sanem was feeling jealous. Even though she was supposed to feel proud that everyone was praising her husband, Jan had everyone by his side. Even her family was enamored by his personality, which wasn't supposed to happen. But she knew Jan loved her more than anything, which was her winning point over him. She forced a smile, saying, "I will be good."

Sanem slowly approached Jan, sliding her arms from his back and resting them on his chest. He was rattling away on the phone, his voice tense and rushed.

Sensing her presence, he said, "Yeah, Gamze, we'll talk about it later." Sanem felt a pang in her chest as she heard the unfamiliar female name.

"Whose Gamze?" she asked, trying to keep her tone casual.
