Chapter 3- Sick Kids

Eliza's been throwing up all night and had a high fever. I gave her medicine but it didn't help. It's currently 7 in the morning and I'm going to have to call out of work because there's no way I'm send her to daycare.

Zoe- hey Lucy what's up
Lucy- hey Zoe I'm not going to be able to come in today. Eliza's sick and she's not getting better
Zoe- hey it's okay you can just bring her in I'll watch
Lucy- I can't ask you to do that
Zoe- it's fine I insist
Lucy- alright if you say so I might be a little bit late because I have to get her ready see you soon
Zoe- that's fine see you soon

I get up and get ready for work. I only do light makeup because I'm too tired from being up with Eliza all night. I look in the mirror and you can see the tiredness on my face but I really don't care as long as Eliza's fine I'll be fine. I go to the kitchen and put her some yogurt and strawberry's in a bowl for breakfast and get her out some leggings and a pink shirt to wear. Liz sweetie it's time to wake up, I say while rubbing her head. I don't wanna, she wines. You're coming to the station with me today so I need you to get up sweetie. It took about 10 more minutes until she finally got out of bed. She ate her food while I braided her hair. I helped her change wash her face and brush her teeth. I grabbed her blanket and we head out the door at 8:40 great I'm late.

Angela's POV

Jacks been throwing up all night so I've only gotten like 3 hours of sleep. He just threw his breakfast up so I'm giving him so medicine and water then I call Zoe.

Zoe- Hey Lopez what's up
Angela- hey captain jack is sick so I'm not gonna be able to come in today
Zoe- it's fine you can bring him in and he can stay in my office
Angela- okay thanks see you soon

I grab everything I need and head out to the station no

Lucy's POV

We're arrive at the station and I'm struggling to get Eliza out the car. So I just pick her and she wraps her legs around my waist and snuggles her head into my chest. I grab my bag and head into the station. As soon as I get in the station I get stopped by Bradford. It isn't bring a kid to work day Chen, he says. Fuck off Bradford id like to see you take care of a sick toddler with no sleep, I yell as I'm walking to Zoe's office. When I get to Zoe office I see Angela and her kid in there. Hey Lucy, Angela and Zoe says. Te juro que voy a darle un puñetazo a la mierda viva de Bradford (I swear I'm going to punch the living shit out of Bradford), I yell. When you do let me know and I'll help you, Angela says while laughing. I sure will, I reply. I sit down and try to wake up Eliza. Eliza sweetie wake up, I say to her. Mama I don't want, she wines. How about if you get to see aunt Zoe and uncle Jackson. When I say that her head shoots up like. Really where are they, she asks. Turn around, I say. She turns around and sees Zoe. She jumps off my lap and runs to Zoe. AUNT ZOE, she says while jumping into Zoe's arms. Hey sweetie I heard you were sick, Zoe says. Yea I don't feel well I wanna go to sleep, Eliza says. Well let's put you to sleep the, Zoe says while laying her on the couch. Hey Jack!, Eliza says while getting up to hug him. Hey Eliza!, Jack says while returning the hug. Looks like our kids know each other, Angela says while laughing. I guess they do, I reply back. Let me know if you need anything I'm gonna start working on my cases, I say. Yea me too, Angela says.

As I'm almost done solving a case with Angela my phone rings and I see it's my mom calling. Great, I say as I slam my phone down on the table and put my head in my hands. What happened, Angela says. Nothing just my mom, I say. Let me know if you need anything, Angela says. I smile at her and say thanks. My mom keeps on calling so I go outside and answer it.

Lucy- what do you want
Lm- I just wanted to call you and say I heard that you were raped and buried alive I just want to tell you that you deserve every awful thing that happens to you and I hope you and your daughter die

Tears start forming in my eyes I turn to go back into the station and I look in horror to Angela, she heard  the entire conversation. I quickly walk past her and go straight to the women's locker room. Once I get into the locker room I punch the wall and sink to the floor with my head in my knees crying. My knuckles start to bleed but I really don't care at this point. After about 10 minutes of crying I get up so I can go ask for the rest of shift off because I just can't be here. I go wash the blood of my hands and throw so water on my face. When I'm drying my hands Angela comes into the bathroom and looks at me. Are you okay, she asks with deep concern. I'll live, I say to her with a shaky voice. I'm gonna go ask for the rest of shift off so I'll see you tomorrow, I say. No you're not because I'm coming with you, she says. I don't need a babysitter,I say. I'm not babysitting you I'm taking care of you, she responds. I sigh as I head off to Zoe's office with Angela behind me.

I knock on the door of Zoe's office and she says come in. Zoe sees my face and runs over to hug me. What happened Lucy, she says. Just my mom telling me how I deserved everything that happened to me, I say quietly. She pulls me back and lifts my head up, listen to me you didn't deserve any of the shit that happened to you, I am so proud of you and everything that you've done. I'm always here if you need anything,you're like a daughter to me Lucy I'm always here, Zoe says. She pulls me back into a hug while I cry silently. Can I have the rest of shift off, I ask her. Yea of course call me if you need anything, Zoe says. Can I have the rest of shift off also to look after her, Angela says. Yea both of you go ahead and head home. We head over to the coach and pick up Eliza and Jack and head to our cars. My house or yours, Angela asks. It doesn't matter,I say. Alright I'll follow you to your house, she says.

We get into the house and kojo comes running over to us with his wagging tail. Hey buddy I say while rubbing his head. I walk over to put Eliza in her room and tuck her into her bed. I kiss her forehead and walk out. You can put Jack in Eliza's room if you want. Thanks, Angela replies. She walks over to Eliza's room and tucks Jack in beside Eliza while I go outside and lay down on the grass looking into the sky. Kojo comes running over and lays beside me while I give a belly rub. Angela comes and lays beside me and says, wanna talk about it. No really,I say. Well let me tell you my story, I had just completed my rookie year and we got a call to a hostage situation there were 2 guys and I was the only responder they were waiting for me at the back door. When I walked in one grabbed me and the other took my radio and gun. One thing led to another and one of the guys rapped me while the other made the hostages watched. That's where Jack comes in the picture, Angela says. I'm so sorry that happened to you,I say while moving closer to her and giving her a side hug. My sergeant rapped me about a year after I made detective that's why I transferred stations, and well my parents I just was never enough for them the big disappointment, and Eliza I found her in the store stealing after her parents were beating her so I adopted her, I say. Angela sits up and pulls me up with her and we both just hold each other in our arms until we hear the kids come outside. I lean back and wipe the tears that are on her face with my thumb and then wipe mine. Mummy why are you and Angela crying, Eliza says. No reason baby just a hard day, I say. Both of the kids come up to us and gives us both a hug. Can Jack and Angela stay over, Eliza asks. Sure sweetie you just have to ask Angela. Please mommy, Jack says. Sure buddy, Angela says while rubbing his head. How about we all have a movie night,I say. YESS, both of the kids yell in excitement. Come on let's get it set up.

We get a big blanket and put it on the couch with some pillow, and some food and drinks on the table. I change into a tank top and some shorts and give Angela a pair of shorts and a shirt. I put Eliza's pajamas on and I give Angela a white t-shirt for Jack to put on and we all head to the couch. Jack and Eliza are sitting beside each other and me and Angela are next to each other. We decided to watch Rapunzel. After the movie is finished both kids are asleep we pick them up and bring them to Eliza's room and tucking them in. Me and Angela head back into the living room to clean up the mess. I walk into my bathroom and start to brush my teeth and I call out to Angela. You can sleep in my room with me if you want, the couch isn't that comfortable, I say. Alright thanks, she says. We get into the bed our legs almost touching but I don't mind. We both drift off to sleep.
