LUXURY APARTMENT HALLWAY - DAY

Samara erupts in a plume of fury.

SAMARA: "YOUR OWN DAUGHTER IS TRYING TO TELL YOU HER LIFE'S PLAN AND YOU'RE JUST FOCUSED ON YOUR DUMB PODCAST?!"

Samuel uncharacteristically matches his daughter's anger.

SAMUEL LEE: "You're almost 30 Sam!!"

Samara freezes up. Her father's words have pierced her heart.

Samuel cringes and bites his fist. He takes several deep breaths to regain composure. He is horrified by his own reaction.

SAMUEL LEE: "I... am sorry. I- I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. I'm just really stressed out about this week's release is all..."

Samara grows crestfallen.

SAMARA: "I get it."

SAMUEL LEE: "It's just think... you might be a little too old to work for $15 an hour, let alone compete for the right to. You know?"

SAMARA: "....I see...."

Samara suddenly has Samuel's cheery undivided attention.

SAMUEL LEE: "...b-but that's more a statement about the company you're applying to! I mean, like you said, you are doing real, pertinent work and they aren't paying you the wage you deserve!"

SAMARA: "I see."

Samuel is channeling his inner salesman.

SAMUEL LEE: "But I trust your judgment, Sam! If you think this is a good career opportunity, Daddy will support you 100% of the way!"

SAMARA: "You think I'm a...."

SAMUEL LEE: "....Because I love you!"

SAMARA: "Mhm."

SAMUEL LEE: "You love me, right, my little princess? I won't let you hang up until you say it!"

SAMARA: "I love you, Dad."

SAMUEL LEE: "Daddy promises to control his anger from now on. You just keep being you!"

SAMARA: "Got it. Goodbye."

Samara hangs up.

She clenches her fist.
