CITY OF ÛR CENTRAL BOOKING VISITOR'S CENTER - EVENING
Sam scratches her head. The inner machinations of Remy's brain have confounded her.

SAMARA
I'm going to unpack all that later. There are more pressing matters to get through.

Samara clears her throat.

SAMARA
Remy. I paid your bail. We can leave and finally start working on that damn project.

The elf girl grows incredulous over this news.

REMY
What? Really?! How much was it?!

SAMARA
That's not important right now, we can worry about that...

REMY
No! I don't like being in your debt! I must know how much you've paid!

SAMARA
It's not a big deal.

A flashback appears, harkening to when Samara removed her dad's credit card from the previous chapter. She places it back into her wallet. Samara pulls up an app on her phone that looks like a cross between eBay and Craigslist. She makes a post.

"Selling: Shotgun Reincarnation memorabilia lot. Total value: $20,000. $4,000 shipped cash up front."

SAMARA
It wasn't much. At all.

Remy furrows her brow.

REMY
Alright. Is that how you want to play it?

Remy gets up from her seat and walks to the exit of the visiting center.

SAMARA
Wait! Where are you going?

Remy knocks on the door. The Prison Guard (Lt. Leonard Connor in disguise) pops out of his head. Sam's eyes bulge from their sockets upon recognizing her apartment's intruder.

REMY
Hey, how much is my bail?

PRISON GUARD
$4,000.

REMY
Cool. Thanks.

The Prison Guard closes the door behind him.

SAMARA
WHAT?!

REMY
That was easy!

SAMARA
THAT'S THE GUY WHO BROKE INTO MY APARTMENT!!

REMY
Huh? When?

SAMARA
A while ago! He was looking for you! And then he and his partner broke into my apartment and planted listening devices!

Remy's eyes glisten. She visualizes a scene from a hard-boiled noir film.

REMY
IT'S JUST LIKE IN MY TABLETOP CAMP-

Sam cuts Remy off before she can enter her fangirl routine.

SAMARA
DO YOU KNOW THESE PEOPLE REMY? WHO ARE THEY?

Remy pauses for a moment to collect her thoughts.

REMY
I... really don't want to talk about it...

Samara grows annoyed.

SAMARA
Remy! For us to work together, you have to be transparent with me! We must have each other's backs if you want to stay in the human world!

Samara takes a deep breath. The human girl is about to pull out her trump card.

SAMARA
It's the least you could do... considering how much you owe me...

Remy groans and deflates in her chair—a clean score for the human girl.

REMY
FIIINNNEEEEEE.....

The elf girl lets out a sigh.

REMY
From what I gather, they were hired by my family to track me down. I think he's a 'Private Investigator' in the lingo of you humans.

SAMARA
So people were looking for you! And there are other humans out there who know the truth about elves! Why would they go through the trouble to wiretap me?

REMY
I guess they were worried about me going around and embarrassing my family's name, seeing how rare world crossings are.

SAMARA
Your family's name...? Who are you, Remy?

REMY
I think it is about time I told you who I really am.

Remy takes a deep breath.

REMY
I am of noble blood. A sister of someone you know.

Samara blinks a few times.

REMY
My real name is Faye. The twin sister of the one you know as "Farah Fairlight."

To be continued...
