The sun rose and slowly started to filter into your bedroom window, gently waking you from your slumber. You laid in bed, just slowly taking in your surroundings. This was your Grandpa's old bedroom. He never kept much in it. Just a bed, dresser, and a shelf filled with his favorite gems he would found in the mines. He was never a married man. He had a one night stand with what he described was a very loving beautiful woman, and that's how your mom was born. Unfortunately, your Grandpa never got to know the woman he impregnated because she died during childbirth. That's why you had no Grandma. Sometimes you wonder why he never tried to get with another woman. You tried to ask when you was younger but he always said he never had time to date because of the farm. His eyes always looked so sad when he said that. You didn't know if that was the truth or if he really did fall in love with that woman after only knowing her only a night. You would never know.

You finally decide to get up and dressed. You brush your hair quickly and throw on a simple T-shirt and jeans. It's the first day of Spring today. You would have thought it was a couple of days ago because the weather got unusually warm earlier this year. You make some oatmeal for breakfast because that's all you brought with you. You don't even have a fridge in the house yet. You grab your food and go to sit at the table when you realize there's a small box sitting on it.

You open it, it's from Lewis. There's a note saying these seeds are from your Grandpa to jumpstart your farm. You look at the packets and they're parsnip seeds. You remember that these seeds sprout pretty quick. You can't wait to get out and start working on the farm. You quickly finish breakfast and head out, grabbing your farming tools and seeds.

There was a lot that needed to be cleared away but you was just going to take one day at a time. There was a nice plot of land in front of your cabin to start the seeds. There was a ton of fallen branches everywhere from the many trees on the farm, along with a lot of grass and weeds. You first went around collecting the small branches then using your axe, you get some of the bigger branches out of the way. Next you scythe away some of the grass. The sun is now high in the sky, signaling that it was high noon. You wipe swear from your forehead. You decided to take a quick break to get something to snack on and a drink.

You grab an apple you brought with you and some water. You go and sit on the porch stairs to rest. You scan the farm. You can see the old greenhouse from here. It looked so bad. This made you frown. Your Grandpa used to grow cactuses from the desert in there to sell to locals since a lot of them didn't travel to the desert much. And star fruit. He loved to grow star fruit. It was his favorite to eat and sell. It always sold well for him. He even used to make it into wine and people would buy it for a pretty penny. You loved the fruit cuz it was star shaped and that amused you as a child.

Your eyes wander over to the pond. It looked like it was full of trash now. You wondered if any fish could even survive in there now. That was the pond you learned to fish in. You loved to fish with your Grandpa. Your favorite place to go was up in the mountains, largemouth bass was your favorite to catch. You loved how dark green the fish was and how tasty it was to eat. You realize you haven't eaten a fish in years. You'll have to catch one when you get a hold of a rod and fry it up a night. You finish your apple and get back to work.

You hoe a little rectangle for your seeds and get to planting. This didn't take long since you didn't have much to plant right now. You set the seeds into the dirt and cover them up. By now, it's only three in the afternoon but you feel on the verge of exhaustion. You haven't done this much physical labor in a long time. You again wipe the swear from your brow and admire your little garden you got going on. There was a lot that needed done but you took the first step toward getting the farm started. You smile. You think your Grandpa would be proud of you right now. You head inside to take a quick shower and change into some cleaner clothes. You decide you want to go into town to see what they there. You're not a super social person but you wouldn't mind at least saying hi to some local townsfolk if you see any. You want to be different here. You don't want to be that shy lady in the back anymore. You want friends. You want a social life. You just hope your anxiety doesn't get the best of you.

You head out and make your way towards town. It was nice because the farm was far enough away from town to really feel like the country but it was still close enough to be walkable. The dirt walkway wasn't muddy so you made it to town within fifteen minutes. The first building you see is a clinic. You don't remember if that was there when you was younger or not. Next to it was the general store for the town. You definitely remember that being there but you're pretty sure it was under new ownership from the last time you saw it. You figure you might as well go in and check it out. You brought some money with you for a little food and some more seeds I'd they still sold them here. You walk in and a little bell goes off announcing your arrival.

"Hello! Welcome to Pierre's!" A friendly voice greets you from behind that counter. He looked to be maybe a middle aged man with glasses. "I'm Pierre. I don't recognize you. Are you the new farmer?" He asks.

"I am! I'm Y/N." You softly smiled at him. "This place looks different from what I remember."

"I hope that's a good thing." Pierre chuckles.

"It is. This place used to be so much smaller when I was little. Looks like you're doing a good job with the place." You comment as you start looking down an aisle. This comment made Pierre very happy by the looks of it. You look around a grab a few groceries you know you can leave out on the counter at home and find a few seeds you can get planted tomorrow. You walk up to the counter to pay when middle aged woman and a younger woman come out from the back

"Hi dear. Abby and I are going out." She looks over at you. "Hello there. Are you the new farmer?" You nod. "I'm Caroline, Pierre's wife and this is our daughter Abigail." You exchange quick hellos with her. You can't help but stare at Abigail's hair. It was such a gorgeous shade of purple that matches her skin so well.

"I love your hair Abigail. It fits you so nicely." You comment.

"Thanks! I dyed it awhile ago and for some reason it just stayed purple." You can see her blush a little from your comment. But you didn't know if she was joking about her hair or not.  Everyone says their goodbyes and you head out of the store. Your bags aren't heavy so you decide to walk around town some more. There was some newer houses down by the river you don't remember being there and of course the Star drop Saloon was still in business. You decide to go there another day when you didn't have so much to carry. It was getting late, so you decide to head back to the farm. You didn't see many people out today but it was only Monday, so maybe people had work and perhaps school. You know there's no actual school in the town but you know people homeschool their kids here.

You arrive back home. You make some supper for yourself and then decide to just turn in for the night. You was exhausted from the day and wanted nothing more but to sleep. You change into some pajamas and as soon as your head hit the pillow, you was out. You slept soundly through the night. You had no dreams, no nightmares. Just a sound peacefully slumber, the second night in your new home.
