I sat on the backseat when she started driving. I don't know how to drive, but even I knew that she was a damn good driver. The way her hands move around the gear, and her eyes not even looking at it!

"How long have you been driving?" I asked, while I look at the rear view mirror, trying to get a glimpse of her face.

"Me?" Her eyes catch me staring at the mirror. And I immediately look out of the window. My eyes trying to betray me but I somehow kept them under my control. "I've been driving for.. more than a year I guess. How about you?"

"Oh, I can't drive, don't have a car, nor a motorbike, nothing." I just shrugged and smiled looking out of the window. "I just know how to walk, that's all."

"You know Dev, walking is also fine if you're with the right person." I moved my eyeballs to look at the mirror from the corner of my eyes, and noticed her lips curving up into a smile while she looked at me.

"Meri taraf dekhne se me tumhe kha nahi jaungi Dev."

She laughed softly, and it was soooo beautiful like, it sounded the harp songs from heaven. She definitely is a really charming soul, I must say. She would be a great friend.

"No that's not it, I am just thinking... Something." I lied.

"Right around the corner na?" She asked me and I nodded. We were getting closer to my apartment where I have been staying during the work. I'm not that expensive kind of person, so a 1BHK is enough for me, a batchelor doesn't need any more.

"You can just drop me off near the road, and I can wal-"

"So that you don't have to invite me inside right? Don't worry I won't take any return gifts for the chaat." She cut me off and smiled again looking at the mirror. I was not gonna say what she interpreted. I was just trying to be polite but well, guess no.

The car stopped around the corner, and she smiled back at me turning her head. I smiled at her and got down from the car, feeling happy. I don't know why I was happy exactly but, her charming smile throughout the entire ride was giving me some strange happiness. Like, it was a feeling of feeling happy with someone else who's genuinely happy around you. I can't explain what exactly I felt but, it was a feeling, a great feeling.

I looked back and noticed her taking reverse to turn but I quickly got to the car, and knocked on the window. She glanced up at me and frowned her eyebrows, shaking her head up, questioning me and then lowering her glass.

"Kamra chhota hai humara, magar dil nahi. Andar nahi ayenge Vani?"

She looked away and started finding something, but I could swear I noticed her cheeks turning red the moment I asked her to come inside. She turned at me after a few seconds, with her purse and waved her hand. "Found it!! Can't leave it inside the car you know?" And she opened the door. I stepped aside as she climbed down the car and looked at me.

"Gentlemen hold the door for ladies, right Dev?" And she smirked. I just opened my mouth and closed it again, nodding my head with a smile as I held the door for her while she climbed down.

"Sorry for my lack of manner." I said looking at her, she just put her palm on her face and muffled a laugh while shaking her head as she walked towards the front door.

I lived on the second floor, room number 203. It was a 2BHK but I call it 1BHK because it's shared apartment with my colleague, he doesn't care what I do or where I go. He's just surrounded in his own world of alcohol, porn and junkfood. I have told him many times to start exercising, but he refused saying it will harm his sexy look.

Honestly, I don't know what he feels sexy about that family pack and men boobs, but I swear if that's sexy then I'm happy being unattractive, average guy.

I followed her towards the elevator, and pressed the button she was about to reach for. The elevator was at the 5th floor so it took some time to arrive.

"Dev?"

"Yes Vani?"

"Elevators are not car doors, I can press the button myself." Vani looked at me with a stern face and I was immediately questioning my decision.

"Uh, sorry. I didn't mean that way, I thought you'd not know which floor to go to, so I clicked it and-"

"You could've pressed the button for the floor inside no?" She frowned her eyebrows and I was taken aback. I opened and closed and opened and closed my mouth. But I couldn't find a proper answer for what to say, and right then she pressed her lips together and started laughing softly.

"God.. I swear you're so cute when you're nervous Dev." She smiled brightly and shook her head, looking back at the elevator. It had arrived and the gate was opening before I could start saying anything.

"Uh, it's not nervousness Vani. I just.. it's the first time someone else is coming to my apartment and, I don't know exactly how to behave or not. I was just trying to be polite and, well it's my natural, I don't mean I'm trying to be polite exactly for you. It's just, I naturally act like-"

"Dev, come inside already!" She tapped the walls of the elevator, and looked at me smiling. "God, how did you even get a job with so much nervousness?"

I closed my eyes and looked down while smiling, and I shook my head. She was a really cheerful and happy soul. It made me feel so much at ease, so much at home. And I just followed inside the elevator.

We reached the second floor without speaking or saying anything else. I was smiling the entire while and looking at my feet, I don't know if I felt nervous or not, but it was my genuine feeling of happiness.

Happiness that I don't feel like dying anymore, for now at least. Happiness that I found myself a good friend, probably the best friendly person I've ever met in my life. Sorry Vivek. And I was happy for whatever happened tonight.

The door opened and she stepped out, I just followed her while she looked left and right, I pointed my finger to the left and she started walking. I stopped at the door of apartment 203, she stopped near me and looked around.

"Do you bring any friends to your apartment?" She asked looking at me. I was taking off the keys to my apartment when I flinched. I noticed a cut on my thumb, probably from the rose bouquet I bought for..

"Dev?" Vani asked again and I snapped out of the thought. "Uh, no actually, my friend also shares this apartment, so none of us ever brought any friends over."

"So your friend, is he gonna mind?" She asked again while I fetched the key and put it in the keyhole.

"He's gone for holiday Vani, and besides." I flashed my key to her and smirked. "The door was locked, means he's not inside. See? I'm not the only stupid."

She smirked back at me and crossed her arms, dangling her purse, "Calling a lady stupid?"

I bit my lower lip, and shook my head and noticing her smile again, I knew she was kidding but this time I didn't say anything.

Instead, I opened the door, waiting for her to step inside.

"Good, you're learning." She said while taking off her shoes.

"Thank you so much Vani." I muttered while she walked inside flashing her smile at me and shaking her head.
