Dev's POV
The moment I opened my eyes, I already forgot what I was dreaming about. This was the worst about my dreams, I couldn't remember them as soon as I woke up.
I looked at my phone, it was 8:05 am. That means it was the second alarm, it got snoozed. I sighed and straightened myself, stretching my hands over my head. I looked around, adjusting my vision to the surrounding. It was indeed my room, and I felt slight sting on my shoulder. The cut was not deep but, it would hurt a while, I knew it.
Slowly summer was coming back, means, the days would be bigger. The earlier I woke up, the bigger my day. But I needed to be at the office, and only after coming back could I use my day as mine.
I turned on the Spotify and connected it to my Bluetooth speaker. Imagine Dragon started screaming through it when I got up, and walked towards the bathroom.
It took me about half an hour to freshen up, another few minutes to get dressed, and I pulled the cord out, put the phone in my pocket, and went out of the room.
I usually grab something to eat on my way when the office sends the car. I usually tell the driver to stop by the bakery, get something to eat for both of us, and then start moving again.
Today was energetic, after last night's suicide adrenaline went off, I waited near the gate of the apartment. I looked at my watch, and just around 8:45 am, my driver arrived. I waved at him as he went forward to reverse the car, then pull it back to the way it came from, because we had to go back. The apartment had more blocks under construction, soon to become a township.
I knocked on the window, and Mr Gujjar pulled the glass down. "Ram Ram sir!" He adjoined his hands. I smiled and adjoined my hands back "Ram Ram Ramprit Ji!" He opened the backdoor for me, and I got inside, telling him to turn on the best new songs that came to popularity. He was a fun man, a guy whom everyone loved. And I smiled when he started playing old Hindi songs.
We turned around the corner of the lane to get into the highway. The office was ten minutes away from us. And I surely enjoyed scrolling through the insta when we were on the way to office. I told him to stop near the bakery as usual, and he stopped. I got down from the car, got to the bakery, bought two Patties for us both and got back to the car. As soon as I sat back down on the seat he turned around to look at me.
"Ye lijiye Ramprit ji, aapka." I forwarded one patty to him, and when he took it, I started taking small bites off the patty. It was veg, normally around the area I lived, it was completely veg, around 15 minutes of driveway from the guest house, everywhere was veg and veg only.
Even when we cooked meat or fish, we had to go to the market about half an hour driveway from here.
"Aaj bag nahi laye sir?" He looked back at me. It took me a few seconds to register and when it did, my eyes went wide open.
"TURN THE CAR!!" I panicked. I really had forgotten to bring the bag again. This happens a lot with me, that I keep forgetting whatever work was to be done.
He kept the patty aside, and started driving back towards the apartment. It was about 9 am now. Not like I would be late but, still it was frustrating when you get early and then something makes you late.
I got down from the car as soon as it stopped near the gate. The watchman smirked at me, bastard knew I had forgotten the bag, but still didn't remind me.
I'll definitely send the photos of you smoking to the apartment owner, I said to myself while climbing the stairs, because apparantly, I had forgotten that elevator did exist in this building.
The peak of my carelessness reached it's threshold when I tried to open the door, and didn't budge. I pulled it again, it didn't budge again. I tried to look for the keys in my pocket, it wasn't there. To make it worse...
MY WALLET WAS GONE!!
SO IS MY PHONE!!
FUCK!!
I scratched my head for a while, then climbed back downstairs. Yes, I FORGOT THE ELEVATOR AGAIN. Seeing me arrive, Ramprit ji started the engine, only to kill it as soon as I waved my hand in a no from far. He opened the door and I took the key, my wallet and my phone from the backseat. Usually when I sit, the formals hug against the thighs and the wallet and keys hurt the skin a bit, so I put them out of the pocket and onto the seat.
I went the whole way back, abusing mentally the smirking watchman again. I arrived at my flat door, the number 203 mocked at me, or at least it looked so.
Yeah, everyone is just disappointed at me, aren't they?
I opened the door and went to my bedroom, noticing the laptop and the bag put aside on my study table. I put the laptop inside as soon as possible, and zipped the bag, swifting towards the door, locking it back again.
I was about to skip the elevator again when I noticed the elevator door open, and the caretaker step out of it.
"Arre sir, good morning! I was just here to take the clothes for laundry."
I nodded my head in a hurry, trying to walk past him inside the elevator. When he moved towards another door, I stepped inside. As soon as I pressed the ground button, the elevator started moving upwards. My mouth gaped open, not believing in my luck at all.
Some fucker has to use the elevator right now?!
I sighed, when the elevator stopped at the fourth floor and an old lady stepped inside, smiling at me. I smiled back at her and waited till the elevator stopped at ground floor, as soon as it did, I jumped out of it almost. Running towards the car, I noticed the door open and jumped inside, letting out a sigh of relief as soon as we took off to the highway again. 9:12 am, I noticed the watch.
I shook my head, and looked at the rare view mirror to see Ramprit ji smiling at me back.
"Aren't you a little careless today as usual, sir?" He smiled chuckling and shaking his head, moving his focus back on the road.
I sighed and told him just to let me arrive the office first. It's not like last night's anxiety had a big part to play, but whatever the reason was, I surely was careless.
Not just in daily routine, but in many parts of life as well.
