How he had let Severus talk him into this Harry would never know. He had been honored when the man had asked him to come and meet his grandparents who were in London. It meant so much that Severus thought so much of their relationship. It had been a disaster right from the off.

After arriving at what the princes fondly referred to as their humble holiday home, a mansion would have been a more apt description, a stooped-over house elf, who had wasted no time casting cleaning charms over their clothes and shoes led them into a lavishly decorated parlor. Severus introduced Harry to Vera and Bartholemew Prince, who reminded Harry far too much of Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy. They sat near a stone fireplace, back ramrod straight, hands clasped tightly in their laps.

"Your dinner guests Mr. and Mrs." the elf intoned, bowing low to the floor then disappearing with a crack.

Severus made the introductions, and they sat down on antique wingback chairs, where another house elf served them drinks. Bartholemew broke the ice by asking Harry what he did for work. Harry explained that he was an Auror having joined the corps 3 years earlier.

"Do you work in a particular department?" Bartholemew asked.

"No, I'm a field Auror" Harry answered.

"What does that entail?" Vera had chimed in.

"I cover street patrol in Diagon and Knockturn Alley, help the Senior Aurors when they require assistance.

"Knockturn Alley" Vera said with obvious distaste, Severus you allow this?"

"It's Harry's job grandmother, I have no say where they send him."

"I certainly hope your colleagues don't know about Severus young man?" Vera snipped.

"They do know about him" Harry answered, confused as to why she was asking such a question.

"One would hope that you never mention his name in that abhorrent place, after everything, Severus does not need to be associated with the likes people that frequent there" Vera drawled.

"I don't make a habit of discussing my personal life, while I'm on patrol" Harry said evenly, feeling his temper rising.

"One would hope not" Vera sniffed, going back to her veal.

Silence ensued as they concentrated on their meals, Harry had just begun to relax when Severus' grandfather spoke again.

"You said that you assist the Senior Aurors in your department?"

" That is right" Harry said carefully.

"Will you be working your way up to a more Senior role? Head Auror perhaps?"

"Not at the moment, I'm happy being a field Auror" Harry answered, "I do not think sitting behind a desk is really for me. One day, but for now I am content where I am."

Vera shot her grandson a pointed look, as if asking how he could be with someone who was in such a lowly position. Severus deliberately ignored the woman and continued eating his meal.

"You wait too long to apply for promotion you may miss out altogether" Bartholemew countered "No one wants to be stuck at the bottom forever."

"Maybe it's not for me then" Harry ground out.

In the parlor an hour later with coffee and brandy, the conversation had steered away from Harry and his lack of ambition and onto more pleasurable subjects. It was too much to hope that it would last.

"Did you say that your last name was Potter young man?" Vera asked.

"Yes" Harry replied, his stomach sinking.

Ignoring the response, Vera looked to Severus, "Didn't you attend school with the Potters or were friends with someone who became a Potter?"

"Lily Potter nee Evans and I were friends during our childhood, she married James Potter who was in the same year as me" Severus explained.

"James Potter?" Vera gasped "Isn't he that awful child who bullied you in school, made your life miserable?"

"That's correct" Severus countered.

"And this is his son?" she pointed at Harry with disgust etched into her face.

"Yes"

"How could you start with someone whose father made your life a misery?"

"Harry isn't his father; he is his own man" Severus said quietly "I have long put past grudges to rest."

"Are you listening to this?" she asked her husband. "Millions of people in the world and he takes up with the son of his childhood bully, I suppose his mother was no better?"

Harry's control snapped and he saw red. "Enough" he shouted, his heart beating madly in his chest. "I have sat here and listened to you complain about my job, my lack of ambition, the fact that Severus and I are not married, and I am somehow holding him back from reaching his full potential. But I will not sit here and listen to you insult my parents, especially when they are not here to defend themselves."

"Listen here young man" Vera snapped, bristling at Harry's tone.

"No, you listen" Harry snarled "I am aware that my father bullied and belittled Severus during their school days and for what it is worth I am ashamed of him for that, but that does not make me like him! In case you are out of the loop, I did not get the chance to know my parents, and my relatives certainly did not waste their time being any sort of role models. I had to make my own way in this world. I became the man I wanted to be, and I am damn proud of it. Do not judge me and deem me unacceptable for Severus when you know nothing at all about me!"

"Are you going to let this insolent child speak to me that way Severus?" Vera demanded.

"Yes, I am" Severus growled, taking Harry's hand in his own "You have no right to speak to Harry in the manner you have tonight. He is no child, he is an accomplished Auror and a bright, intelligent man, whom I happen to love very much. He is the reason I am standing her before you and not wasting away in a dank cell in Azkaban prison. Harry is the reason that this world is safe, and you can enjoy your lives. I am proud to call this man my lover, my friend and my equal and if you cannot accept that then you have no place in my life. Come Harry the evening is over."

Heads held high, Harry and Severus apparated back to their comfortable cottage, where Severus drew Harry a bath, sat beside him washing his body gently and thoroughly. Afterwards the former Potions Master took his lover to bed and ravished every inch of his beautiful body.

"Thank you for loving me" Harry muttered sleepily as he curled his body around Severus and drifted into a contented slumber.
