I arrived at my uncle's pack to discuss what my mother and Mitch had done to my father. After I had Mace contact him yesterday, he insisted we come immediately and promised to gather the rest of the counselors.
Mace heard from my gamma that the girls were ready to return with three shifters, so I aimed to have everything resolved before their arrival. Mace brought my mother and Mitch as we made our way to my uncle's conference hall.
Walking into the hall, I saw my uncle at the head of the podium, with alphas from an allied pack beside him.
"Caine, I'm happy to see you again, but this is not the way I wanted our next encounter to go," my uncle said, glancing at my mother.
"You and me both, Roma," I replied, taking a seat next to Mace as my uncle began to speak.
"I received the files you sent me. Lynn, I can't believe you would do such a thing to my brother. He loved you dearly," Roma said to my mother, hurt evident in his eyes.
"If he truly loved me, he would have let me be with my actual mate instead of keeping me for himself," my mother retorted. Roma's expression turned to rage.
"Oh please, Lynn. You jumped at the opportunity to become a Luna and did everything in your power to do so. I told Cassius not to make a whore his Luna, but here we are," Roma said, gathering the papers on the podium. My mother tried to speak, but Roma cut her off.
"Keep your mouth shut until you are asked to speak," he commanded, frowning at her. "We recovered the paragraph that was marked out. There wasn't much there besides what you had informed me, Caine. We couldn't attempt another autopsy because, as you know, your father was supposed to be cremated."
"What do you mean 'supposed to be cremated'? He was cremated," I said, confused.
"He was not cremated. Those were not his ashes; it was sand," my uncle replied. I glanced at my mother, who looked shocked.
"What does that mean?" I asked, perplexed.
"It means they either did something else with his body, or he's alive." Roma looked at my mother and Mitch. "Do you care to explain what actually happened to my brother?" My mother stiffened and glanced at Mitch.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Mitch insisted.
"Oh please, Mitch. If you don't tell me, I'll have a friend of mine cast a truth spell on you, then kill you afterward," Roma said, raising an eyebrow. Mitch began to panic as he stood, but Mace pushed him back into his seat.
"It was Lynn! She told me once we got rid of him, she would make me the new alpha after killing off her son," Mitch confessed. I looked at my mother, tears forming in my eyes.
"No! I would never say that!" she protested.
"She did! We found out we were mates a day after she moved into Alpha Cassius's quarters. We've been together since then! We were in love, and she told me she wanted to take everything he had and make it ours. She told me to be patient and let her play things out!" Mitch yelled, pointing a finger at my mother.
"No, I didn't!" she cried out. I felt nothing but rage as I looked at my mother.
"You did! You told me to wait for you. Then you acted like I didn't exist for four years, and when you came back, you were pregnant with Mace. You knew I was upset, so you told me you'd make it up to me and to continue being patient," Mitch continued.
Roma stood up, anger evident on his face. "ENOUGH! I want to know what happened to my brother on your vacation, every fucking detail!" My mother whimpered as Roma approached her.
"Lynn told me it was time and to find a vacation spot that grows wolfsbane. She booked me a separate flight, and I met up with her that night to discuss her plan. She wanted to poison him. She made the wolfsbane into powder and sprinkled it on his food the next day. When her plan didn't work, she asked me to hurt him," Mitch explained.
"What did you do?" I demanded, growling lowly.
Mitch winced. "I hit him over the head with a brick. We noticed he was still alive, and I panicked."
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?" Roma yelled.
"I was scared he would wake up and see me, so I doped him up with medicine and called a friend of mine to get rid of Alpha Cassius. My friend didn't want to be responsible for killing an Alpha but knew places that needed someone like him. I told him to take Alpha Cassius there," Mitch admitted, fiddling with his fingers.
"So, is he dead?" I asked.
"I don't know now, but he wasn't dead when they retrieved him," Mitch replied, rubbing his face.
"How could you two do such a thing? Why not just leave and become rogues if you were so in love?" Roma roared, pacing back to the podium.
"Call the witch and tell her she's needed. As for you two, I want you to suffer before you die! Take them to the cellars!" The other counselors agreed, and guards came to take Mitch and my mother away.
"NO! Caine, you can't let them do this to me! Please! I'm your mother!" she pleaded.
"I don't owe you anything! You tried to kill my father and planned to kill me all for Mitch! This is what you deserve!" I shouted as the guards escorted her and Mitch out of the room. Once they were gone the counselors and I then discussed our next steps.
