"Hey! Look what I found!" A 10-year-old blond kid ran over to two other kids. That was Dallas Winston, 7 years ago. His heart wasn't blackened, and he wasn't so mean. He might've even had a future back then if it weren't for this day.

"What's that?" One of the kids asked. Luis was his name, and the other's was Asher. They were both 10, too, and curious about what Dallas found.

"A gun, man! Check it out!" The excited blond showed his friends a pistol he found. He picked it up off of the streets a few blocks down and wanted to show his friends. He had ran the entire way, and his fair face was tinted red. It'd fade quickly, though.

Asher looked amazed by it. He always wanted to see a gun in person. He was like that. A troublemaking kid that was more like future Dally than an actual kid. Luis's eyes narrowed at the firearm, though. He was cautious around it. He was one with common sense, knowing not to screw around with dangerous objects like that.

"Damn, man! Yo, lemme see it." Asher took the gun from Dallas. He inspected it curiously, eyeing the dark-colored metal. It was cold to the touch. It was fascinating to little Asher. He liked all things violent. Or, he used to.

"Hey, Luis. Check this out." Asher playfully aimed it at Luis's head, his finger on the trigger. Luis's dark brown eyes widened a bit, and he chuckled nervously. He wouldn't pull it, right? Right?

Dallas noticed the look in Luis's eyes and looked over at Asher. This didn't seem like a good idea, even he knew it. He felt an urge to stop this. It was like he knew something bad was going to happen.

"Dude, aim it somewhere else, man. It ain't funny." His voice was dead serious. He didn't know if it was loaded or not. None of them did. Asher assumed it wasn't loaded, though. I mean, who would leave a loaded gun lying on the ground?

"What do you mean, Dally? It's just a gun, man. See? Nothin'll happen if I pull the trigger." Asher aimed it at Luis again. Luis could only stand there; he was frozen in fear. It was essentially fight or flight mode. Only Luis picked freeze.

"Stop it, man!" Dallas tried to aim the firearm somewhere else. Asher held his ground and kept trying to point it at Luis. The two kids fought over it until the trigger got pulled. Asher expected a hollow click, but that wasn't the sound it made.

They both stopped fighting when they heard the gunshot. It was silent until Luis hit the ground.

His forehead had a hole in it and a crimson red liquid was leaking out at an alarming rate. Dallas screamed. Asher looked horrified. They were 10 and just saw a gunshot wound firsthand. The poor kids saw Luis bleeding out from his head. They watched as he went pale from the blood loss. They watched their friend die in an instant.

"You idiot!" Dallas hissed as he got back up from crouching down near Luis. He had been checking for a pulse, only to find an absence.

"You killed him! You killed Luis, man!" There were tears in Dallas's chalcedony-colored eyes. Luis was kind of like what Johnny was to present-day Dally. The quiet and sweet kid. The one who never got to grow up.

"I didn't know it was loaded! How was I supposed to know it was loaded!?" Asher tossed the gun away. He averted his eyes so he wouldn't see the corpse of a kid who'd never see the sky again. He felt guilty. He didn't want to feel guilty. So, he diverted the blame.

"And I wouldn't have pulled it if you hadn't tried to take it away!" Asher retorted back at Dallas. The two argued until the cops showed up. Someone called them because they heard the shot. They hauled the kids into the station to question them about what went down.

Long story short, Dallas Winston got sentenced to  4 years in juvenile detention. He had frequent nightmares about that day ever since. He could never get the image of Luis lying lifeless out of his mind.
