It all happened in a flash. One second the gun was on you and the next, on him. You've never been in such a high intensity situation like that before because you either had Hydra controlling your actions or had more than a few seconds to think of a plan.
"Thanks for the save back there." He smiled, nudging your shoulder with his.
"Don't ever make me do that again," You breathed a laugh, only half kidding, "Next time just shoot him."
"He was too close." He scrunched his eyebrows, thinking you already knew that.
"And if I was a second too late..." You trailed off, willing yourself not to go there, "If it's me or you, go with you."
"Not a chance, doll." He smirked and then kissed the top of your head, messing up your hair afterwards.
The two of you were walking back to the jet, having gotten everything you needed, and telling them over Bucky's com that yours wasn't working, so they'd meet everyone back there.
"What happened to you two?" Steve demanded when you both came to the bottom of the entrance.
"Ran into a lone Hydra agent," Bucky explained, "But Y/n stepped up and handled it."
"I'm going to need that report on my desk by Monday," Steve huffed, "Good work team." He added when Bucky handed over the hard drive.
You sat next to Sam who was already strapped in and you let out a sigh, finally letting yourself relax.
"So?" He raised his eyebrows and you looked over at him lazily, "How was my girl's first mission?"
"I now get why you guys party every other night." You laughed and he smiled.
"I'm just so proud." He whined sarcastically, pretending to wipe away tears, and then after a moment he asked, "So, what really happened?"
"The Hydra agent jumped her from behind," Bucky started explaining, sitting across from him, "He had a gun to her head and I couldn't get the shot, so when he turned the gun on me," He smiled and you looked at him confused to why he seemed happy, "She freaking mind melted him into turning the gun on himself."
"Holy shit!" Sam cheered, patting your back.
"I'm guessing that wasn't the first time you killed someone," Steve observed out loud, sitting opposite of you, "Without being forced to."
The three of you looked over at him and he raised an eyebrow, not knowing that it was kind of overstepping, but you didn't mind.
"It wasn't," You confirmed, sitting back, "Like many before me, I've killed people too."
~Small Time Skip~
Everyone piled out of the Quinjet, calling the mission a success, and Steve warned you that after almost every mission Tony likes to throw a party, no matter how short lived or simple it was.
"So, you're okay?" Natasha asked from behind you when the others went ahead.
You slowed down and she was soon walking by your side.
"Mhm." You nodded, feeling uncomfortable because the tension was back but you weren't sure if she noticed it.
"And you didn't screw it up."
"Surprised?" You asked, raising your eyebrows and chancing a look at her that you instantly regretted because she had a soft smile and it made you melt.
"You put in the work," She shrugged, "So, no, I'm not surprised."
"Are you going to Stark's party?" You asked after a moment and smiling when she opened the door for you.
