"I need to run some tests."

"Yeah, Bruce, of course, go ahead." You gestured to Natasha and got out of the way.

She had woken up on the sixth day and you immediately jumped out of your chair when her raspy voice called your name. You brought over water which she happily gulped down and you beamed at her the entire time, tears welling in your eyes. The overwhelming relief of seeing her eyes opened and her not looking as pale anymore shot a dose of happiness right to your heart, you could've sworn it had swollen on the spot. She carefully put the bottle that was empty down and raised her arms out to you. Laughing through your tears, you more than willingly hugged her close and cried into her neck, trying to muffle it. She asked how long she'd been out and when you told her, she frowned deeply, knowing what that must've done to you. The two of you cuddled for hours after that and people came in, surprised by the sight since you hadn't yet told anyone.

You just couldn't bring yourself to take your eyes off the redhead long enough.

Like now, even though it's a day later, you stood back and the smile that started to hurt your cheeks was a welcomed pain because you couldn't wipe it off even if you wanted to. She watched you just as happily and you swayed back and forth, eager to touch her again. To confirm to yourself that she's real and she's not going anywhere.

"I meant on you." Bruce said and you both furrowed your eyebrows, looking over at him.

"Why?" You asked in unison, making a smile tug at your lips.

As if on cue, Fury walked in with a stern look on his face that didn't sit right with you. Instead of saying anything, you went over and sat on the bed with Natasha, keeping an arm around her shoulders protectively.

"I'm going to have to ask you to be respectful of the doctor's request here." Fury told you, crossing his arms.

"I will politely decline."

"What's all this about?" Natasha asked, looking between them, "Bruce? What's going on?"

"Heart attack?" Fury spat at you, "Really?"

"Y/n?" Natasha asked quietly and you avoided her eyes.

"Your girlfriend here, without authorization of course, interrogated a suspected Hydra agent that was found when we scoped everyone out in the SHIELD files," Fury explained and Bruce looked down, knowing where this was going, "She did this last night, unknown to the rest of us, and let's just say he didn't make it."

"The tests are a precaution." Bruce told you, pleading with his voice for you to just agree.

"So, she killed a Hydra agent," Natasha came to your defense, "Isn't that half of what SHIELD does?"

"Do you wanna tell her?" Fury asked you, but before you could he added, "She blew him up from the inside out when he wouldn't admit to placing the bomb in the old building."

"She's dangerous, Nat." Bruce tried to convince her.

"She was angry, she was rightfully frustrated, and again, I don't see the problem with another dead Hydra operative."

"Nat-"

"No!" She cut you off, "She's one of the strongest Avengers and she blames herself for so much. The guilt she carries, trying to make it right, and you two have the audacity to question her sanity? Her control? Fuck you b-"

"Nat!" You cut her off this time more firmly and she looked at you with wild eyes, "I wasn't even sure he was Hydra. It got out of control and now there are people cleaning his blood and insides off the walls."

She looked at you like you always dreaded she would.

With fear in her eyes.

"My powers," You whispered, tears stinging your eyes, "They make me overemotional and irrational at times when I'm stressed or upset," You took a deep breath, "I already know what the tests are going to say and I don't want that information in my file."
