Faces. So many faces.
I could see my family huddled around something. Their backs were turned and they were blocking my view. Even when they finally dispersed whatever they were gathered around had disappeared.
If there had been anything at all.
Maude and Brett were standing in front of me, staring at me. Staring past me. They didn't say anything. Two cats ran in and out between their legs wrestling and biting each other. One of them let out a squeak of a meow when the other played too rough.
I heard footsteps behind me. I saw my grandmother walking in my direction, getting closer and closer. I took off, hoping to put as much distance between us as possible. Something prevented me from running. Eventually I stopped trying and realised I was alone.
There was a mirror. My reflection had a purple spot on her cheek and I wiped it off. Only it came back, and now it was also on my hands. I kept brushing it off me, scratching at myself. No matter how much I tried I couldn't get clean.
Someone called for me.
I opened my eyes.
There bending over me was Angus. Dark circles under his eyes and his hair a bit of a mess. I sat up and stretched. The bus was empty except for us. He held out my leather jacket, helping me put my arms through. "Wanted to wake ya'. We're at the airport."
