I arrived home after spending a good time in the park. Before entering, I made sure to wipe away my tears and look decent. Closing the door behind me, I tried not to make much noise. As I passed through the living room, someone cleared their throat, and I instantly closed my eyes.
"Where were you?" It was my mom, her face stern.
"In the park."
"You lied to me. You said you were going to pick up my future son-in-law, and for that, I gave you the day off." She crossed her arms.
"I did go to look for him, but... I didn't find him." I lied.
I didn't want to tell her that I saw him but didn't dare to go after him.
"Kalem came to the café after his training."
"What? Really?" Surprise colored my voice.
"He was looking for you." She continued, then handed me my phone. "Here, you left it at work. Charge it and call him."
I nodded and headed upstairs to my room. Sitting on the floor, I plugged it in and tried to turn it on. As I did, I noticed all the notifications flooding in. I had several missed calls, some from my parents and Nora, but most were from Kalem. I checked the call times; the brunette had called me in the early morning when I fell asleep to depressing songs, and the others were after his training.
So, he was calling and seemed frustrated because I wasn't answering? I ran a hand through my hair and then placed it over my lips. He had also called when I was at the park.
A smile spread across my face involuntarily.
I decided to call him.
I was nervous, fearing he wouldn't answer. What if he hung up like last time? I just hoped he wouldn't. He picked up on the second ring, and my hands began to sweat.
"Heather?" I missed his voice, so much. It had been over a week since I last heard it.
"Kalem..."
I heard him sigh.
"Do you know how much I missed hearing you say my name?" He whispered, sounding so good. I was grateful he couldn't see me smiling at that moment.
"Let's meet tomorrow at lunchtime at the greenhouse." I proposed.
"Tomorrow is the game..." He seemed to be thinking. "But, I can make time for you because I want to see you too."
Why was he like this? This sweetheart. I loved it.
"No, let's meet after the game."
I didn't want him to have trouble because of that.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"After the game, then." He fell silent for a few seconds. "Will you come watch me play?" I could hear the doubt in his voice.
"I'll be there," I whispered.
I heard him yawn.
"Now, I'll be able to sleep well because I know I'll see you tomorrow." He whispered too, I was sure that on his face was that good boy smile.
"Good night, Kalem. Rest well," I said softly, remembering how tired he looked this afternoon.
"You too, little writer."
After hanging up, I let out a long sigh, closing my eyes. I had missed him so much.
After hanging up, I lay on my bed and buried my face in the pillows, then turned to look at the stars on the ceiling. Was I doing the right thing? Something inside me said yes, so I pushed aside the negative thoughts trying to make me regret. I reached for my notebook on the nightstand and lay on my stomach to start writing.
