"I am sorry, Your Highness, I have no more information than I have told you. The name Bjorgman is not on the list of people who have returned to the castle. You must be mistaken—

"No, she was necessarily there."

"Who is that, sir?"

I looked up at Kai and sighed.

"Forget it, you can't understand. I just want you to give me that list.

"I cannot."

"Why?

"It is not in my possession. The palace guards are holding it."

I got up and walked to the door. As I put my hand on the handle, the butler stopped me:

"I don't advise you to worry about so many details that won't get you anywhere. You'd better turn your attention to more concrete and useful things than this completely crazy and unrealistic new fad."

"You have nothing more to say to me, you are no longer in a position of strength."

I opened the door and left Kai alone in the Great Hall. I walked with a determined step through the corridor, heading towards the guard room. I needed that list, no matter what.

I entered without striking. Two men in armor were inside. Upon hearing the door open, they instantly carried their hand to their sword, ready to draw it in case of danger. When they recognized me, they immediately lowered their guard.

"What are you doing here, Your Majesty?" one of them wondered. "It is not for the king to come to us, but for us to come to the king."

I'm smiling. It wasn't my view. Neither they nor I were used to this change.

"I need a list of the people who returned to the castle the day after my coronation."

The soldiers gave themselves a strange look. I understood that something bothered them in my request.

"Why do you want it?

"It's none of your business, I think. I just need it."

"This is normally confidential information, sir. If we give it to you, we waive the right of anonymity to you, especially when there has been no incident. "

"Yes, there was. "

"Which one?"

I gave him a cold look. I didn't know much about my status yet, but one thing was certain, he didn't have to question my words.

"I am your king, if I tell you that there was an incident it is that there was one, and if I ask you for this list, it is so that you give it to me without discussing and without asking any indiscreet question."

I saw the shared hesitation in the eyes of both men. One of the two ends up heading to the back of the room and opened a cupboard enclosed in the wall. A multitude of long, more or less recent scrolls were preserved there. He took one of them, the lowest, and handed it to me.

"I'm not supposed to do this, so I'm asking you to keep any names you discover secret," he says.

"I will. Thank you."

I grabbed the roll of paper and walked out of the guard room. The hallway was still so quiet. It was almost scary. I walked quietly along the walls. Suddenly, a movement in front of me pulled me out of my thoughts. There was a young man sitting on the stairs. He was wearing a white shirt and black wide pants. He was a servant. His half-scowling, half-nonchalant air told me something. I approached him. He blocked my way. I had to go upstairs. I moaned my throat to make him understand that he was bothering me. The young man rose slowly but did not move away. He buried his hands in the pockets of his pants and looked at me from top to bottom. I then saw his gaze linger on the parchment I was holding.
