The next day at school was just like any other. A zombie in a maze. After school though, this is where it changes. For some strange reason known only to her, Bella was insistent on me coming on a dress shopping trip to Port Angeles with her friends. Bella never liked shopping, and neither did I. It was kinda an unspoken agreement that we do not go shopping unless absolutely forced. So why Bella would go on this trip and drag me along, I have no clue. I was currently sulking in the backseat of Jessica's car with my sister. I was trying my very best not to butt into their conversations and destroy the bratty Jessica. I hated her. Bella was never very good at making friends, but certainly she do better than this. I mean Angela wasn't horrible, but Jessica, don't even get me started. I was a ticking time bomb, a shaken soda ready to explode. Bella seemed to realize this. So, after roughly two hours of pure torture of listening to Jessica's arrogant comments on how pretty she looked in each dress, Bella broke away on a mission of her own and brought me along.
"Remind me again, just why are we walking in dark alleyways in a city at night when we could be home relaxing." I pestered her. I was not a happy camper.
"I told you, I need a book." She replied, sounding a little nervous. I was not nervous, whatever came at us I could handle, I was just inconvenienced.
"A book?" I said, looking at her like, 'really'
"Yes, you open them and there are words that tell a story. Ever heard of one?" She snarked. I rolled my eyes but shut up nonetheless. We finally arrived at the promised bookstore. I waited outside for Bella to get her book. I was cold, hungry, and tired. All in all I was ready to be home. We were supposed to meet Bella's friends at a restaurant. No doubt we were late. We went back through the winding alleyways. Something wasn't right, I could feel it. The little hairs on the back of my neck were rising. I knew better than to look behind me, so I waited until we were about to round a corner, then looked at the wall to the right of me.Sure enough there were a few more shadows following a little ways behind us.
"Don't look now but I think there are people following us." I whispered to Bella. She stiffened, and glanced behind. "What did I literally just say?" I hissed. She ignored my comment.
"I think you're right. Just ignore them, I am sure we will be fine." She was trying to sound confident, like the reassuring older sibling, but I could hear the panic leaking into her voice. I had always been better in situations like this. Bella couldn't run fast without tripping, let alone fight. I still remember one time when Bella and I got lost in the store. We had somehow gotten separated from our mom and were wandering around trying to find her. She was eight, and I was five, almost six. Some creepy dude walked up to us, trying to offer us candy that he had in his car. Bella started crying, and I kicked the man in the shin before taking her hand and running. We found our mom and told her what happened. Needless to say we never went to that store again, and we always made sure to stay close to her. Now I was ready to do that or more to make sure my sister was safe. She may be older, but I always played the protector role. Always have, always will. Bella started to quicken her pace, panic was getting the better of her. I matched mine to hers. When we rounded yet another corner she came to an abrupt halt. When I stepped around her I realized why. A few of the men that had been tailing us must have split off, they had herded us. We were trapped. Flight was not an option, freeze was dumb, so I guess it was fight.
