It wasn't very often she went through the box she stuffed in the farthest, darkest corner of her basement. It wasn't very big, but a decent 4 by 4 measurement.
But they've colonized her thoughts for a week now..
What she cherished most was a red and yellow themed photo album Raine made her, on her 18th birthday, along with a silver necklace with a lightning bolt charm on it.
Lord calamity
Engraved in it. She smiled as she held it in her palm. A small gift they gave her after being friends for so long, and in return she gave them a single black earring that hung down. Eda put the necklace on a random page of the photo album, then pulled out a stack of Rhapsody's baby pictures she printed out a long time ago. She remembered the painful period of the constant crying and being assaulted with mashed vegetables that tasted like straight up the ass, and the mystery of life.
She tasted it once...then only fed her daughter different flavors of apple sauce. Which now happens to be Rapsody's favorite snack.
The ginger woman also pulled out the old diary she used to write in. She flipped through the pages, really remembering how much of an impact Raine had on her fragile heart. Eda sighed, seeing as there was only one last empty page. She looked at it, remembering that she'd only written in it when she kissed Raine for the first time. Yet due to the weather life went, that page remained empty.
The regret of her fear seemed to open back up in her heart. She had so many chances to do something, and yet she made so many excuses... So many lies... So many things she wanted to tell them but was never brave enough to say. The woman sighed, starting to put everything away until she noticed the old mandolin she used to tinker with to have something in common with Raine. Before she could do anything else she heard tiny shuffling.
"Mommy?..what are you doing" Rapsody asked, rubbing her eyes tiredly. Eda jolted, then looked back to see her toddler in her purple dino pajamas. "Rapsody. Baby, what are you doing up? Is way past your bedtime" Eda replied and quickly put everything away, then stood up. "Come on sweetheart. Back to bed" Eda said, picking up her daughter, then walking up the basement stairs. Rapsody looked at confused while being carried away.
"Mommy, what was in that box?" Rapsody asked, wrapping her arms around her mother's neck. "Grown-up stuff baby girl" Eda replied, as she laid her daughter down in bed, tucking her in. "But mommy I'm almost a grown up" Rapsody protested, making a laugh. "No sweetie... You not" she replied with a smile, then kissed her forehead. "But mommy I am! I'm a whole 4 and a half!" Rapsody argued, making a giggle. "Well when you can spell spaghetti, then you can stay up later" Eda replied, then stood up and left the room.
Eda went to her own room, only for her phone to ring. She looked at the caller ID, then smirked.
Gay boy🏳🌈
"Hey, gayboy! What can I do for ya?"
Eda asked, Only wanting to get under his skin.
"God I hate you"
"No, you don't, you love me and you know it"
"Your existence is a black hole to my peace"
Eda couldn't help but laugh.
"I'm kidding. What's up?"
"Well Raine moved back recently and-"
"Yeah I know"
There was a long pause. Until Darius yelled.
"Why didn't you say anything, you bitch!?"
Eda scoffed, rolling her eyes.
