i woke up to loud banging in the kitchen. assuming some monstrosity was being created by my older brother in there, i decide not to investigate. instead lugging myself to the bathroom to get myself ready for the day. which created a whole new issue of what to wear to the damn interview that kept me up all night
picking through everything in my wardrobe, after about 10 minutes my room had look a mess with clothes, shoes, everything sprawled across my floor. as i'm digging through drawer, faint knocks come from my bedroom door
"come in!" i yell while staring in the mirror at my clothed reflection
"hey ellie z, trevor made breakfast" jamie says while taking a seat on the edge of my bed
"oh dear how'd that turn out?" i ask looking at jamie through the mirror
"well i had to help him but he didn't burn anything which is new"
"oh how he's grown" i put my hand over my heart, frowning slightly

as i finishedgetting ready for my interview with the ducks, i felt nervous butterflies flutter through my stomach. i had done everything to make this day perfect so far, i've done every superstition. every routinely habit. i've prayed, i've manifested, i did everything right before left.
i finish up getting ready. checking myself one more time in the mirror before exiting my room, to see jamie waiting for me, who was also waiting for trevor.
"what's with you zegras's you take so long!" jamie exclaims throwing his hands up "you ready for your big day?" he asks pulling me into his side
"hardly" i mumble into him
"oh you'll do great el don't worry" he says ruffling my hair "plus you're a zegras what is there not to love"
"yeah not the trevor zegras though"
"what's that supposed to mean?" jamie asks looking down at me
"i don't know, what if im not as cool and awesome like trevor" i sigh out looking toward my feet, my shoes suddenly sparking extreme interest to me
"ellie" jamie frowns. he places a soft hand on my cheek, forcing me to look up at him "i promise they will love you, probably more than your brother. you have nothing to be nervous for" jamie reassures me
"thank you jamie" i smile up at him
as we continued talking, trevor finally left his room so we could get on the road
"took you long enough bud" i scoff out behind him, following him toward the garage door
"yeah whatever" trevor scoffs
as we all loud up into trevor's car i let out a deep, anxious sigh.
