Zoë
"Oh, I've seen that face before, your adrenaline finally wearing off, Mami?"
I smile at him through the mirror. "You have no idea. I pulled a double shift before this. I'm surprised everything went well."
He chuckles before hugging me from behind. "I'm not. If anyone could birth a breeched baby without complications, it's you." I really do appreciate his faith in me, but during the birth, I wasn't so sure.
I splash some cold water on my face before drying off and putting on a clean lab coat.
"What rooms did you put them in?"
"Addy is in room 502, the rest of the family has also arrived. The newborn just went through all of his checkups, and I put Sam Claymore in room 612."
As soon as the baby was born, Addy collapsed and seconds later, Sam followed, leaving me with an uncut cord and two women I had no hands free to help. Luckily, the paramedics showed up five minutes later and took me along with Addy and the baby in the ambulance.
Nico followed with Sam in the back seat, who was unconscious.
I triple-checked everything on the charts and only when I found absolutely nothing out of the ordinary did I let my back relax.
With a smile on my face, I walk into Addy's room, this has always been my favorite part.
The loud chatter immediately stops, and all eyes turn to me and the small blue blanket. Addy was looking much better, but that soon faded as she began crying.
She stretched her arms out, only being able to produce a few hazy squeaks. A man with blond hair and a buzz cut joins on the bed next to her. From the pictures she showed me, I know it's Lawrence, the baby's father. The entire room is filled with four similar-looking men, all well-dressed, intimidating, and over six feet. Warm smiles are displayed on every face.
"He is a week early and went through a breeched birth, but nothing went wrong, and he is a perfectly healthy seven-pound and three-ounce baby boy. I would like to keep you here for a few days due to the stress it put on your body, just to make sure you get enough rest and are healing correctly."
Her glassy eyes look up at me with a broken smile. "Thank you, Zo," it's only a whisper, causing my eyes to begin burning as well.
I turn around to give them a bit of privacy when the door is kicked in.
I was about to go check on Sam when I find her in the doorway with an animalistic look. Her eyes filled with pain, worry, and new intensity, she stares directly at me, then she looks at Addy and the baby before a smile appears.
Her eyes roll back, and her body falls limp.
Leaping forward, I brace her just in time to lessen the blow on her knees.
Tony comes rushing in with two guards behind him. "What the hell just happened!?" He flinches at the tone of my voice, making me immediately regret it. I've never yelled at him, my head just isn't in the right space.
"She woke up and wouldn't listen to anyone who wouldn't tell her where you are, she ripped out her IV and took down two guards and a nurse on her way here."
My jaw drops. Now I really feel bad for losing my calm.
The entire room is silent behind me for only a few seconds before one of the men behind me bursts out into laughter. "I'm surprised she only took down three." He is one of the younger ones, probably one of Sam's cousins.
More laughter erupts between them, confusing me more.
"Where is her room?" An older gentleman says as he walks over.
