Zoë

I make my way into my office around midnight, finally being able to get away from everything. The entire day was a success, but all I can think about is how much my feet are killing me. I can't remember the last time I wore heels for this long, how do Sam and Addy do this all day?

Again, there is no point in going home, so I immediately begin preparing my couch for another night.

When closing my eyes, all I can see is Sam's face and think about how it felt kissing her. This entire situation is a mess, and I need to find a way to get her out of my mind. Last time, we agreed to pretend it never happened, but I don't think we can spin the same story and make it believable.

I'm still not sure how it happened that first time, but today it was my doing. I don't even know how to look either of them in the eye. If Addy hadn't walked in when she did, who knows what would have happened.

I spend half an hour staring at the ceiling when there is a loud knock on my office door. At this hour, the entire floor should be empty, so I can't imagine who could be on the other side.

The moment I open my door, I regret it as the smell of cigarettes and alcohol enters the room.

"What are you doing here, Henry?"

Standing right infront of me is the last person I want to see, let alone talk to. His eyes are red, and his suit is a mess. Giving me a glare that makes my blood run cold, he pushes past the entrance.

"I lost my job today!" Veins popping on his forehead as he threatens forward.

I want to get as far away from him as possible but realize how hopeless my situation is when he kicks the door closed, blocking it with his much larger frame.

"I lost my job, but you already knew that since you planned it together with that Bitch Sam Claymore." His words half-slurred with venom dripping when saying her name.

"I didn't actually," I try remaining calm, but my voice comes out shaky. There really is nobody who would be walking by here anytime soon.

"Don't play innocent with me, we both know what you are capable of and how good you are at pretending to be nice. Those files she released will get my license to practice revoked, if I'm lucky to not end up in jail. You ruined my life, Zoë!"

He swings his arm, shoving all the contents of my shelves on the ground. "You're not going to get away with this, one way or another you will pay."

His eyes now menacing as he begins stalking towards me. I step back with every step he takes forward until the back of my legs hit my desk. Nothing in his glare seems sane or stable, my only chance is distracting him while I try getting help.

"I had no idea she would do that, tell me how I can fix this. I want to try and make this right, you don't deserve what she did."

Some part of him still feels something toward me, it's the only reason I can imagine him taking a pass at me. "Sweetheart, talk to me, what did she do?"

He seems taken aback by the name I used to call him.

While he frowns with confusion, I use my body to cover the phone and take the hook off with one hand behind me. I press the fifth button on the third row, hoping that it was the right one. I don't even use most of them, why would an office phone need thirty different buttons?

"I don't believe it was an accident, or that you were innocent in all of it. I was here not two days ago telling you that I was going to make you pay, and then this happens?"
