Sam

The small amount of light breaks through the thick rainy clouds, coating the entire hallway in a cold blue hue. It's still very early in the morning as I run through the hallway as fast as possible. Compared to me, everything is huge, the size of grown-ups. I'm looking for something, but I don't know what. Yet I keep going as fast as my small legs can carry me. My heart is racing as tears roll down my cheeks. Where did she go?

Shooting into a sitting position, I grab hold of my chest and try to calm my alarmingly fast heart.
My entire body is covered in sweat, and my shirt clings to my chest, only adding to my discomfort. I detest wearing clothing when I sleep. Unfortunately, this motel is the furthest from sanitary.
His strained, raspy voice still rings through my head as he described her last breaths in excruciating detail. Her death was my fault. He confirmed my assumption. She hid me away, yet I have done nothing with my life worth her sacrifice. I remember little of that day, but I remember him, I remember that voice. I remember screaming.
I did the one thing that I knew would bring me relief. It was, however, short-lived, and soon I came to the realization that I killed the one person who was there that day, the man who could give insight into why they have been going so far to destroy my father and my entire family. Insight into why she was killed.
My head aching, I drag my body out of bed and to the bathroom to clean off the sweat. For the last two days, I have not been able to rest before that nightmare takes hold, waking me. Addy and my father will try to force me into a clinic if they see me like this.
The boiling water pours down my back, pinking my skin. This is my sixth shower, yet I still feel my skin crawling with the DNA of Paolo Capri.
My fingernails have never been this clean, yet it does not feel like enough. I can still feel the warmth of his blood and see it in my hands.
Drying myself off, I shuffle through the duffle bag on the table. I still have seven thousand in cash and two fresh pairs of clothing. This should last me a few more days, a week possibly.
Soon after, hunger strikes me, reminding me that I have not eaten since yesterday afternoon. I decide to wait another hour till nightfall. Though I am far enough from prying eyes, there is still a chance that I could be recognized.
I eat at the diner across the street. The food is greasy and filled with sodium, yet I finish my plate. If sleep is not an option, I need to find a source of energy somewhere else. On my way back to my room, I stop by the liquor store and buy a bottle of whiskey to drown my night away as I have done for the last forty eight hours.

The doorknobs are too high up to reach. I can't get out of here, and every corner I turn seems to put me in the same bright-colored hall as the last. Loud cracking sounds can be heard at the end of the hall I am in, followed by a high-pitched scream in a voice I know all too well.
A cold shiver runs down my spine as my body is trying to will me in the other direction. If scary sounds are coming from somewhere, you should run the other direction. I hear her scream again and continue walking towards the sound.

"We found her!" Lawrence comes rushing in just as I am about to put Mason down.
