Amir's convoy reached the outskirts of Amarabad, a scenic spot where the rolling hills met a dense forest. The location was perfect for setting up camp: a clear stream nearby provided fresh water, and the thick trees offered natural cover.
"We'll camp here for the night and continue in the morning," Amir announced, signaling to his men.
The soldiers quickly began setting up tents and building a fire. After it was done, a simple meal was prepared and they ate before beginning to retire to their tents.
Samaira, hidden beneath the covers of a supply cart, finally sneaked out, her stomach growling with hunger.
She cautiously approached the campfire, staying out of sight from the watch guards.
She saw some untouched pieces of bread and meat near the fire and reached out to grab them.
She sneaked behind a tree hiding herself from vision and started eating.
Suddenly, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. At first, she thought it was just the guards making their rounds, but then she saw a man and a woman moving stealthily between the tents.
Within moments, the two intruders reached Amir's tent, and swiftly took out the guards at the entrance.
Her eyes widened in realization-they were enemies. Samaira's heart pounded in her chest as she watched the woman slip inside the tent, while the man stood guard. She had to act quickly.
Inside the tent, the woman climbed on top of Amir and placed a knife at his throat. Amir woke up with a start, feeling the cold steel against his skin.
"Where is the princess?" the woman demanded, her voice a harsh whisper.
Amir, still groggy, tried to comprehend the situation. He noticed her curly blonde hair and striking blue eyes, which were uncommon in this land. She also wore a distinctive scout uniform, hinting at her foreign origin.
"What princess?" he asked, genuinely confused.
"Don't play dumb. Tell me where Princess Sabina is!" she snarled, pressing the knife slightly into his skin, drawing a drop of blood.
Before Amir could respond, the man guarding the entrance fell inside the tent with a thud, an arrow protruding from his chest.
The woman turned her head in surprise, giving Amir the opportunity he needed.
He knocked the knife from her hand and pinned her down. The woman tried to scramble away, but Amir held her down firmly.
"Amir?" came a familiar voice. He looked up to see Samaira standing at the entrance of the tent, her bow in hand.
