The door creaked open, and a maid stepped inside, balancing a tray of food. Her simple robes brushed against the stone floor as she moved toward the chamber's sitting area near the arched windows.

"Amirah Samaira?" The maid called out gently, parting the heavy curtains and allowing a faint sliver of moonlight to spill into the chamber. "I've brought your food."

She glanced around, her brows furrowing when she didn't see Samaira right away. "Amirah?"

The maid's steps faltered as her eyes landed on Samaira, standing stiffly by the balcony, her hands tucked behind her back

The maid's steps faltered as her eyes landed on Samaira, standing stiffly by the balcony, her hands tucked behind her back.

Samaira glanced over her shoulder, her movements stiff and unnatural. "Yes... I was just-getting some air, that's all."

She turned to close the balcony door, but it caught halfway, refusing to shut properly.

The maid's brow knit slightly, her gaze sharpening with concern. "Amirah? You seem uneasy-is everything alright?"

Samaira's heart raced, but she forced a tight smile, turning to face her and gesturing toward the small table by the fireplace. "Yes... yes, everything's fine. Just leave the food there and be on your way."

The maid gave a slight nod, her steps light as she made her way toward the table by the fireplace. As she bent to place the tray down, Samaira's gaze flicked to the balcony door left slightly ajar.

There, in the shadows just beyond the doorframe, Zaid waited, his movements carefully calculated. The night breeze stirred the curtains just enough to muffle the soft creak of the wooden floorboards as Zaid glided into the room, his movements seamless and precise.

Timing his approach with the sound of the tray being set down, Zaid moved with the stealth of a predator, staying low behind the maid's back.

The flickering firelight cast shifting shadows that obscured him further as he crossed the room in two silent strides, pressing himself flat against the wall just behind her.
