CHAPTER TEN
❛ FLUORESCENT ADOLESCENT ❜
╸let's go crazy, shall we?
THE COLD BREEZE CAME AT HIGH SPEED through the car's open window, freezing her bare shoulders. She thought about closing the window, but Billy was smoking while driving, so that wasn't an option. She didn't want to suffocate to death.
Rory lowered the car's sun shade over her seat so she could check herself in the mirror to make sure her lipstick wasn't smudged. She took one last look at the makeup she had applied to her face. She tried to risk a little more since she was going to a party, trying to use the techniques her mother had taught her.
Billy parked the blue Camaro, its engine roaring fervently, in front of the Harrington mansion.
Billy got out and straightened his red leather jacket, his necklaces dangling from his uncovered torso. As Rory stepped out of the car, she felt the wind chill her bare legs. She pulled on her California denim jacket to protect her body from the cold.
The twins walked side by side into Steve's house, which was filled with happy people dancing all over the place, plastic cups in hand. The music echoed loudly through the majestic, immaculate walls of the place.
Most of the people were in costume, since it was a Halloween party, but some were not, like Billy and Rory.
And guess who they saw in the distance.
Steve Perfect Hair-rington.
The host of the party. With more hairspray than usual.
Billy had quickly established himself among the teenagers, and soon he was pouring a beverage into his mouth. Billy's entrance into the party didn't go unnoticed, the applause and slaps on the back were noticeable, and some girls immediately started to approach him.
On the one hand, Rory was happy that he was doing well. She wasn't crazy about her brother, but he was her brother, blood of her blood, a twin.
Even though they were different as hell, she had learned that you don't abandon your family. So she tried to defend her brother as much as she could and try to understand him, because she was the only one who really knew him. But there were limits, her values were more important than anything else.
Something that gave her enormous pleasure was seeing Steve look Billy up and down while clenching his jaw. Apparently, the popular boy wasn't the only one in the spotlight.
After seeing Billy, Steve looked around for Hargrove's other half. To see if he was actually accompanied.
For a moment, she found it endearing that Steve remembered her existence, so she took a few steps toward him, trying to cross the room without being run over or crushed by someone.
