As far as the records I searched through, the same accusations came up. Someone with the looks of Albedo freed the cursed treasure hoarders and made them attack an important hunter (me). Given this proof, he was accused of attempting murder, which wasn't taken lightly.

Excuse my words, but that reeked of shit. (Although, I shouldn't  apologise.) It's just that there wasn't an inch of pure good intentions in these walls.

Klee had gone up into her confinement room out of her own will to dwell in her grief, which, in her defense, was entirely reasonable. She believed in his innocence, and so did I.

Despite every hint of evidence claiming the opposite.

But I wasn't allowed to voice that publicly without receiving the according backlash. I couldn't risk that yet if I wanted to uncover their corruption.

With Varka out of the way, whom I indirectly killed off through Amber's skills as a means to an end, there were only Kaeya, Jean, and Eula left. The other lower ranks would submit to the system. If not, we'd make them.

Corruption would never fade, but you could diminish it to an extent.

I sorted out the papers and walked outside.

Just as I was about to pass down the hallway, I saw the ash blonde alchemist walk down the corridor. I was about to greet him as he began glaring at Kaeya and throwing a punch into the knights face.

I did the best thing that came to mind to keep my cover and tackled him.

First of all, Albedo was in the cell. Whoever that was wasn't Albedo. Second of all, I had to get back to the office to retrieve the papers.

"Albedo—" Then I noticed the pristine skin around his neck. There wasn't a 4 jagged star with a light outline, nothing.

That certainly wasn't Albedo.

He kept throwing punches in all directions. The ambition leaped through his actions as he wouldn't stop.

He was entirely focused on the blue haired knight, not caring much for my presence.

He glared at Kaeya, "You and the others took everything from me! I could have been free—" Suddenly, a sharp chocke noise escaped his lips. Imposter Albedo's face dropped onto the ground, over Kaeya, who was still tackled on the ground.

A crack emerged.

For a moment, he gasped for air, and his coughs grew heavier. It reeked of metal. Crimson colored blood spilled like a broken ink vessel on the ground. The captain's shoulder fabric was soaked in crimson.

"Kaeya.." I muttered.

I lay on the ground, beside him, and had witnessed everything. From the beginning of the smirk to the withdrawal of the blade from his chest.

"What did you.." I starred at the scene. I couldn't finish my sentence at last. The blood didn't dry up, yet it was still fresh. Guards came to arrest Kaeya. It strictly wasn't allowed to kill someone like this.

Only in self-defense.

No one knew it was self defence, moreover it was an impulsive act on his behalf.

I had it under control.

"Ma'am," one of the guards helped me up. I looked at them, with wary as their eyes lowered to meet mine. I couldn't be apathetic about seeing the exact image of my friend be murdered. Even when it wasn't him.

My breath was ragged, my legs number than when I first stood up, and my heart dared to rip out of my chest cage.

"What's the situation here?" they asked me, the only reliable witness. I starred at the corpse, then at the heavily breathing Kaeya.
