I look at him and smile, "Hello." Why did I say that? was I stupid? It was the weirdest way to make a first impression.
Why was such a thing happening now? I desperately wanted to speak up. The thought of making a wrong impression brought me mental anguish, yet well, it wasn't that bad. When it depends, it backfires, but right now, his presence soothed me without doing anything.
He was just there, and I felt myself become self-conscious.
"Hi," he greeted, a familiar warmth resting in that smile.
"Sorry, I was so caught up in reaching that thief— I didn't mean to bump into you like that."
"What's your name?" he asked me. A thin layered surprise washed over my face. He asked for my name? This pretty stranger asked a quiet presence like mine after her name? That must have been my lucky day. Usually, I was the one to go out of my way and tie contacts.
I didn't know what to say. Your throat turned dry. Suddenly, the thoughts that were soaked with words before inside of me— were gone, empty, nowhere to be found, and dry.
"I'm Venti, by the way," he announced, his voice sounding warm and welcoming, like an embrace I didn't have before. Something about his aura pulled me in. He looked at me with a light in his eyes, raw and undefined. "Honoured to make your acquaintance." he nodded.
"I'm Y/n," I replied, I already felt the hot bother my cheeks. "Likewise, I'm honoured to make your acquaintance as well," I said, affirming with a grin how happy I was. A genuine grin.
Lately, everything seemed to go well. It was nice.
"Would you like to drink a tea with me and my mentor by chance to make up for the inconvenience?" I asked. I didn't know what came over me. It was overwhelming, but it felt just so right?
He nodded, I wanted to jump, enthusiastic as I was, I took his hand and dragged him into the HQ of the knights of the favonious.
It didn't take a long while, and while I only showed him the hallway with beautiful portraits, I heard faint giggles that became louder.
Klee immediately jumped up into my arms as soon as I pushed the door open to the library. Her bright, ruby eyes sparkled. "Big sister, you're back!"
"Yes, I am." I smile and ruffle her hair.
Albedo followed a few steps behind her and smiled politely at Venti and gave me a wave.
He and I were just as close as any other day. I really loved my best friend, he was amazing and, knowing him, Albedi would push me and that stranger into some one on one conversation as soon as he'd find out that I thought he was pretty.
It was a risk, but he'd do something with that risk. I'd take that opportunity even if it was embarrassing.
We walked deeper into the isles and descended the stairs. Then Venti was greeted by Sucrose. At first, she seemed to hesitate, but within a minute of giving her a gentle smile, Venti waved at her and introduced himself. He asked if she was a coworker of mine.
"Oh, not directly, but I'd say we're friends.. we just do some projects together sometimes." she whispered embarrassed, "Y/n mainly takes care of the raw conditions."
Venti turned to me and raised a brow. A smile inched on his lips.
Meanwhile, Klee had already wandered towards Lisa. She jumped up and down and told her and Jean about the new dodoco tale she wrote with Yoimiya and the traveller.
Venti and I exchanged a smile and a glance. Yeah, this was a normal day.
Albedo picked up Klee and sat her beside Jean and Kaeya, who listened to her stories, avidly.
Sucrose exchanged a few words with Albedo down the aisle as Lisa sipped on her tea. Then, she placed it away from herself.
"Hi, my dear," she greeted me in a warm embrace.
"Hey, Lisa," I said.
"So, who is that?" she smiled, "I know that you're a renowned bard, at least." Venti seemed rather humble about it. Although the fact that he was a bard was unknown to me. I took this new piece of information in and looked at him. I was a bit surprised, but now his carefree personality made even more sense than before.
He seemed so free.
He was free.
Like a bird in a nice breeze.
One who was brave.
I admired that, but in Monstadt, everyone was able to choose their freedom. Something not everyone had the privilege to. Despite that, I tried to enjoy my positive thoughts more than the negative ones.
Lisa made us all sit down and indulge in a break with tea. There was cake as well, but she mainly focused on the tea. We shared a few conversations, smiled, and laughed.
Venti hummed, "Would you like to go out for tea or sometime?" his smile was one I somehow felt drawn to without him doing much.
"I'd like that," I whispered back. No one had to know. If they did, they'd tease the death out of me, which I didn't want to experience yet.
While everyone chatted, I pulled out one of my favourite titles among the book shelves. What did I do? I reread the end.
He knew, in every other timeline, he'd fail, but somehow, even if just for a single evening, he'd sink into these interactions without feeling out of place among his people.
His family.
The beginning of a long and happy ending to unfold and told.

RAINEE's NOTE;
This ending is perhaps canon, depending on how you want to view it. I put it as an extra since someone commented that they have less than 0.1% hope that it's going to be a happy ending.
I'm looking at u. The number one commenter 👀
Did everyone recognise it? her favourite storybook is a parallel to Ventis journey and basically his inner monologue. She started the story in the prologue while he finished it in the epilogue.
