Minghao swings his sword, letting it pierce through the rebel's body. His face is bloody and scarred from the rebellion against the monarchy that his family has kept alive for generations.

He didn't ask to be born into such a high status. He always made sure to be friendly and open with the kingdom; giving back to the citizens and the less fortunate.

Not only is he generous, but he's also an incredible warrior, who has been training from a very young age- as he was his father's successor.

He knew what would come with being the emperor, but he didn't necessarily expect a rebellion to break out in the first two years of his reign.

He sent out his best warriors to settle things down with the rebels, but that didn't work in his favor.

And now, the Imperial Palace was unrecognizable from the dead bodies of citizens and warriors spread out on the ground. The blood making Minghao's stomach churn.

He swings his sword once again, his sword clashing with a rebel's. He holds his ground, yet in a moment of weakness his feet slide back. He feels his heart race as the rebel now has the upper hand.

He closes his eyes, his face turned toward the ground as he tries to one-up him.

Suddenly, however, he felt the pressure lift off from his sword. He opened his eyes, his breath heavy.

Minghao's eyes widened slightly when he saw his husband, Junhui.

Junhui- to Minghao's knowledge- was not even in the kingdom, but out on an excursion. So seeing him put him in a state of shock, leaving his body still as he stared at him.

Even as he senses someone running toward him from behind, he didn't move. Luckily for him, Junhui took hold of him, pulling him away from the rebel. His sword going straight through the man's chest.

"Junhui- you-" Said man looked at him, after pulling his sword from the- now dead- man's heart.

"You are lucky I got back on time. Did not even get a word from anyone around here." He scoffed, unamused by the slow messenger.

Minghao pulled away slightly, wiping some blood from his face. "We need to figure this out.. I don't understand how it got so bad." He said as he looked around at his kingdom's losses. "I don't think I've seen anything this bad. Not since the battle with The Huangs." He gripped his sword anxiously.

Junhui's face etched with worry about his husband's state. "Let's go somewhere safe." He pulled Minghao along with him as he rushed to the highest point of the kingdom.

As Minghao stood at the clif, his eyes well up with tears. His emotions finally getting the best of him.

"I'm a failure. I even left the innocent to hide out because I couldn't handle some rebellion!" He dropped to his knees, wind blowing in his hair as he sobbed. "I don't deserve my title- I don't deserve my sword!" He raises his voice, throwing his sword off of the cliff.

Junhui frownes and approachs Minghao, sitting down beside him. He wipes the tears from his cheek as he speaks softly. "You are not a failure. Rebellions are expected. They happen all of the time. There will always be people who don't like you- no matter what you do for your people."

Minghao sniffles and looks at his husband, his eyes wandering to his ripped clothes and punctured armor. Even in such dire times, his husband is as handsome as ever. He smiles to himself at his words. "Thank you, but I could've been more prepared. I wish I could go back and-"

"There is no going back. Unfortunately, there will never be. We can only look forward and try to fix things." He interjects. One thing Junhui hates is when his husband discredits himself and beats himself up for things that he can't really control.

No matter how many times he talks to him about it, he never seems to learn.

"I love you, Junhui."

Not expecting the sudden affection, Junhui tilts his head to the side slightly. "What? Can I not express my love and devotion?" He rolls his eyes at the poetic language.

"I love you too, but if you talk like that again.. I might have to divorce." The two laughed together, feeling a sense of comfort and peace for a moment, away from the chaos.

Minghao stands up, Junhui doing the same. The two plan on heading back into the kingdom, but stop when they hear something.

Junhui holds out his sword. While Minghao mentally slaps himself for throwing his off the cliff.

"I have a dagger in my pocket." Without another word, he took the dagger, still situated behind Junhui.

"Cowards! Come out!" Junhui had always been the outspoken and risk taker of the pair. Minghao admired that, feeling that their opposite mannerisms made them more compatible with each other.

In the blink of a second, a battle broke out between the two of them and the couple dozen rebels that found them.

Some pushed off of the cliff, others slashed at the neck, it was overwhelming. But what Minghao didn't expect was to hear a pained screech.

He quickly turned around at the sound. His eyes widen at the sight of Junhui holding his shoulder- on his knees.

Rage filled his body, taking over his senses, as he senselessly runs toward the rebels and brutally stabs them in the shoulder and neck. He feels the adrenaline peak as he jumped one of the men, pinning his against a tree and stabbing through his wrists- leaving him to hang there.

He starts to walk toward his husband, but falls to his knees, feeling his vision blur.

"Hold on. You need to rest." Junhui picks up Minghao and carries him on his back, after wrapping his shoulder with a piece of his clothes that he ripped off.

He carried him all the way back to the Imperial Palace, after getting spotted by their trusted advisors.

As far as they know, it's safe for now.
