_________________________________________As long as Minghao can remember, Joshua has been there for him. At first however, he really didn't like him.
Joshua was always trying to start a conversation with him; whether at lunch, in class- passing notes- or following him after school. They did live near each other, but he hated it.
It's not like Joshua wasn't a good person. All throughout middle school and high school, he was- and still is- admired by many. Minghao couldn't deny how smart and generous he was, and still is, too.
He remembers when the two of them would be seatmates and how students would come up to him to ask for help with the worksheets. Minghao never asked for help. He never felt the need to have someone help him with anything.
It's how he grew up.
The thing about Minghao is that he's mute. And the moment that his parents were told so, they were livid.
In their words, "we wanted a kid, not a mime!"
They never bothered with him, he had to rely on himself. Although, he was fortunate enough for his parents to at least enroll him in a kindergarten and elementary school that accommodate kids like him; which is where he learned sign language.
It crushed him as a kid to know that whenever he'd try to communicate with his parents, either by writing or sign language, they didn't care. They never cared to learn to communicate with him, because it was "too hard" and "unnecessary."
So, as he grew older, he just never bothered to even look at anyone. He was just seen as the weird and quiet one. He didnt think anyone even knew he was mute, they just though he wasn't social.
One day changed it all, though.
He was sitting right outside the school, looking over some notes for a test, when Joshua, as usual, came up to him.
"Hey, Hao!" He said as he sat down a little too close to Minghao for his liking. "Do you want a brownie? My mom and I made some yesterday," he smiled as he looked at the younger.
Minghao looked at him, then at the lunchbox he was holding and slouched slightly, feeling too tired to get up and leave him. He shrugged and Joshua smiled wider, handing him a brownie.
He clasped his hands together and watched intently, as Minghao took a bite.
He didn't want to admit it, but the brownie was actually really good and before he knew it, he had eaten it all.
"I knew you'd like it! It has a few M&M's in it too!" Minghao found himself smiling as the older boy explained to him how him and his mom made them.
A few minutes later, the bell rang and they had to go their separate ways.
Minghao bowed slightly and waved bye to Joshua. Before he could walk away, Joshua grabbed his arm and signed "goodbye, have a good day" to him.
Not even in a million years did Minghao expect that. He just stood there, dumbfounded at Joshua's small, but really thoughtful gesture.
"Did I do it wrong? I'm sorry, I-" before he could finish his sentence, he was met with a tight hug from Minghao. The two hugged for a couple more seconds, before pulling away.
Joshua smiled at the younger, who had the biggest smile on his face; which is definitely a rare sight.
Now, five years later, the two are in college together. They planned to go to the same university, and did just that.
Joshua is majoring in business and marketing, while Minghao is majoring in criminal justice.
The two couldn't be happier. They have their own little apartment, not too far from their college campus and even plan on getting a pet in a couple years.
"Haohao! I'm home!" Joshua yells out for his boyfriend. On Wednesday's, it's usually Minghao coming home late, but Minghao has a fever and so stayed home.
Joshua goes to their room and sees Minghao in bed with his laptop, probably working on homework he missed.
Minghao looked up from his laptop and was about to get out of bed, when Joshua stopped him. "No. Nope. You need to stay in bed!" He sat beside his boyfriend, which made him roll his eyes.
"I'm just sick, it's not like my leg is broken." Minghao signed to his boyfriend, which made him hug him tightly. "So? I want you to feel better as soon as possible, so you're staying here." Joshua pouted as he held Minghao.
There was no way for him to win this fight, so he gave in. The two sat in bed together for a good minute or so, cuddling.
Minghao taps his boyfriend's shoulder and signs, "can we have something to eat, I'm hungry." Without a second though, Joshua got up and rushed out the bedroom door. The other man was left confused, as he looked at the door.
Before he could get up to see what was wrong, Joshua came rushing back in with a couple bags in his hands.
"Ok, so I have some wonton soup, sandwiches.." He says as he takes everything out of the bags and onto the nightstand. Minghao can't help but smile at how cute his boyfriend is being. "Oh! And I found the biscuits that you like!" The nightstand was stacked with different food and drinks that Joshua thought would help make his sick boyfriend better.
"Thank you, you didn't have to," he signed. "You always say that. I do it because I love you."
The two are now sat in the living room, eating and watching whatever is on TV, at the moment. Every few minutes, Joshua couldn't help but check the younger's temperature; placing the back of his hand on his forehead.
He knew that it'll take another day or two for him to feel 100% better, he just needed to make sure that he isn't getting worse. He knows that Minghao doesn't like staying at home so much and he would've probably still went to his classes, if it wasn't for him.
Suddenly, Joshua snaps out of his thoughts, realizing that Minghao kissed his cheek. "What was that for?" He asked smiling, slightly flustered. "No reason, I just felt like it." With that, Minghao leaned in for Joshua to kiss him back.
Instead, Joshua pulled him into a kiss. Minghao tangled his fingers in the older's hair and deepened the kiss.
Smiling, the two pulled away slightly, looking in it each other's eyes. "Feel better soon, baby, I love you."
Joshua's now sitting in bed, coughing as his boyfriend tries to feed him some soup. "It was-" Minghao put his hand over his mouth to stop him from talking so much. Though he was coughing constantly, it didn't stop him from talking so much. Minghao shook his head as he looked at him.
"It was worth the kiss," he signed, making Minghao roll his eyes slightly at his persistent boyfriend.
