That night I yet again wasn't able to sleep, I had terrible nightmares featuring a dark shadowy figure with an appearance similar to a scruffy dog.
I decided to skip breakfast and sleep until I couldn't any longer. My first class wasn't as far so I wasn't worried about making it on time.
Today we had another potions class this time our class was tied to the Gryffindors and we had a joint class.
If Harry and I weren't still fighting I would've been ecstatic. That was unfortunately not the case for today though.
Daphne met me outside of the classroom and we walked in giggling together.
Daphne was the friend I always needed. She was sweet and kind, overall just a good person.l, but she was also terribly funny, and confident which I respected.
My smile quickly dropped as I realized our assigned seats the previous class carried over to today's.
I grumpily dropped my things and sat next to Malfoy. The boy had his arm still in a sling and he honestly looked stupid.
"Why are you acting like you're hurt? Doesn't it get old?" I asked my face turned to meet his.
"Well Potter, acting may get old, but it also allows for me to have advantages. For example,"
Professor Snape cut Malfoy off leaving me curious. "Today class we will be making a shrinking solution. Our next combined class we will be testing our potions with real rats. If you don't with to kill them I suggest you pay attention to what you're doing."
I started collecting ingredients and giving them to Malfoy to cut. Last time our work ended up pretty good and I wanted the same fate to fall with this potion.
"Potter, how do you expect me to cut these? My arm is obviously not useable to cut daisy roots."
I nodded as I rolled my eyes. "Right, I guess I forgot." I started cutting the roots quite quickly in a small fit of anger.
I wouldn't be angry if he just asked me to cut up the roots but instead he had to come up with some random petty excuse and honestly I knew this boy for less than a week and I was already tired.
"You're going to cut your finger stop." I continued cutting the roots ignoring Malfoy completely. I was honestly too angry to care about what he was saying.
"Damn it." I mumbled as I did exactly what they both said. The top of my finger was bleeding just slightly. I quickly moved my hand away from the table, my blood was not going to ruin this whole potion.
"Told you." Malfoy looked more calm than normal and when I looked at his face expecting a wide smirk he looked worried? No not worried probably bored.
He placed his hand on the table, his palm facing up. I gave him a questioning look before he took my hand in his 'injured' hand.
He placed my hand in the one resting on the table and pulled out his wand. He performed a simple healing spell that helped with cuts or bruises.
"I could've done that myself." I look down at my hand still resting in his. His hands were cold to the touch, freezing actually.
"Yeah well I could've cut them myself so I sort of owed you."
I blushed lightly as I looked up to his face. Draco Malfoy actually had a genuine smile on his face. I don't think I ever saw him smile, unless it was his evil smirk he did when he got someone in trouble.
It was nice to see him in a slightly different way. I still hated him I just felt a little bad now. Well, a teensy tiny bit bad, he was still a horrible person.
I realized that my hand was still resting in Malfoys and quickly pulled it away. I pushed our cut daisy over to him and watched as he measured them out.
I watched as our potion turned from a white creamy color to a dark fuchsia. It was strange how you could add one small thing to a potion and it suddenly was something new entirely.
"Did you see that Sirius Black has been spotted? He's probably coming after the two Potters." Malfoy let out a single snarky laugh before going back to silence.
"Who?" I asked measuring out some syrup we needed.
"How do you not know who Sirius Black is? Are you even a witch?"
"Yes? I am. I just spent the past six years of my life in France so I don't know much about your little local celebrities." I sighed getting the next ingredient.
Malfoy began to laugh. "Celebrity? Celebrity? Potter are you serious? He isn't a celebrity he's a terrible evil wizard that escaped Azkaban. And it's said that he- he uh never mind."
Malfoy stopped talking. His smirk turned into a grim expression and he shook his head slightly. He looked almost scared.
Why was he silent? I didn't enjoy talking to him, but it did make class less boring. A little less boring, just barely though.
Who was I kidding? One potions class wasn't going to turn Draco Malfoy into a good guy. He will still be the same boy that walked in when he walked out.
Similar to a potion though, one small thing and everything changes.
We heated and stirred the potion until it turned a dark green color.
"This color is quite pretty." I whispered admiring the potion as I starred at it. My mind was in every direction, yet my eyes were drawn to the potion and its color.
"What?" Malfoy asked turning to look at me and giving me a disgusted and confused face. "I said the color of the potion was quite pretty, that's all."
"Right." Malfoy help out the word and smirked as he walked to go talk to other people.
I didn't even realize class was over. I was so distracted by the potion and what Malfoy said. I probably looked crazy still sitting just staring.
I turned and saw Daphne and Theo who were both giggling as they talked to eachother.
"How was the gremlin today?" Daphne asked as they got closes. I shrugged.
"Honestly, he wasn't as bad. Bearable I would say." Both Daphne and Theo grew shocked expressions.
"I'm sorry did you just call Draco Malfoy bearable? Are you okay? Did he hex you? Are you sick?" Theo put the back of his hand against my head checking to see if I was hot.
I pushed his arm away as he laughed. "Theo there is no need to worry you're still my favorite Slytherin." I patted his head as he stuck out his tongue.
"You too are so childish." Daphne groaned as she punched Theo's arm.
"Well number one we are children and number two why'd you only punch me? Seems kind of unfair if you ask me. Scarlett deserves equal punishment or are you sexist?" Theodore crossed his arms and moved his head to look away and he grew a pouty face.
Such a little drama queen.
Daphne gave me a lighter punch on my arm and rolled her eyes. "There big baby now you're equal."
Theo turned back to face us. "Good, I don't think I could be angry at you guys any longer I may've died!"
"Little dramatic if you ask me." I mumble as I stick my own tongue out at the boy.
Theo and I went on a this for a little bit longer until we made it to the great hall.
Since I didn't eat anything yet I was starving. Both Theo and I quickly filled our plates, and our mouths, so our antics were put in rest.
"I think I'm only going to hang out with you guys when you're eating. It's much more my style." Daphne giggled as she picked up some food herself.
Even though potions was weird today it was nice to remember my life wasn't a metaphor and didn't change like a potion. I was still the same old me, and Malfoy was the same old him.
