Jayden navigated through the building to get to room No. 99. It was like he was going to another place entirely, he met people he didn't even know where in his house, he had thought that the students of the Dark Dusk House were just about fifty or sixty. But he was wrong about that, they were far more than he thought.
He had no friends apart from the people on his team, he didn't like to mingle with people unless it was necessary. He sometimes acted like an introvert and avoided people like they were plagues in human form, but that had not helped him till now, it was time to change some things.
He got to room No. 99 and knocked, Knell opened the door soon after without asking who it was.
'He must have used God's Eyes.' Jayden thought.
God's Eyes was the device used to see through the door and walls to know who was around you. It couldn't see through to other people's rooms for privacy reasons, but it could make out the outline of those in the room next to yours in case of an attack.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Come on in."
Jayden walked in and sat on the only chair in the room, Knell didn't mind that and lay down on his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Jayden sat there for some seconds before speaking.
"So what are you gonna do now?"
"Get stronger of course. Isn't it obvious."
"Uhh... No." Jayden replied a bit confused.
Knell raised his head and looked at Jayden, before laying back.
"I don't see how you're gonna get stronger by locking yourself in your room doing nothing." Jayden said." Why don't we go and train in the gym, maybe we can do something about your body."
"I hate training in the gym. I've told you guys like a thousand times."
"Why?" Jayden asked as he raised an eyebrow.
Knell looked like he was hesitating, but he gave up and spoke after some persuasion from Jayden.
"Do you know that I have a disease?" Knell said. "I've had it since I was born. It makes me get tired easily and makes my body weaken if I stress myself too much. I thought I could solve that issue if I trained my body, but it only made things worse. That's why I'm hunched."
"Ohh." Jayden exclaimed as realization dawned on him. "I thought you just hated doing physical exercises. I didn't know it was actually a disease. Is it by any chance the Miryan Deficiency?" Jayden asked.
"Yes." Knell simply said. "And I'm planning to use boost."
At the mention of boost, Jayden's eyes almost popped out of his head.
"Are you crazy?!! Why would you think of using Boost?!!What even led you to that thought? You of all people should know that Boost is deadly. Or have you forgotten what happened to your dad?." A torrent of questions were thrown at Knell who didn't seem bothered at the prospect of dying.
"I don't think I can continue to live this kind of life." Knell said somberly. "The pain I feel every night when I sleep is unbearable, it makes me almost loose my mind, but I don't succumb to it because I know, that I have people who care about me. I don't want to see them hurting, so I do what I can to smile, even when I feel maddening pain.
Even when I try to get stronger, I only worsen my pain, so Boost..... Is my only choice left.
This might be selfish, but if it kills me, so be it. I would no longer torment myself because of other people's feelings, I don't live my life for anyone and I won't change my decision."
"There's only a ten percent chance of survival and after that, it may or may not cure your disease. Can you even handle to force of The Reversal?"
"I'll find a way."
Jayden stared at Knell in shock. He didnt expect this kind of situation when he intended to come there, he wanted to just chill with Knell and learn more about him, not to discuss about a high probability of his death.
Jayden ended up not dissuading Knell about his decision of using Boost.
They talked for a while before they eventually separated to go and do their different things.
Jayden returned to his dorm room, and packed his few belongings. Actually he had nothing except his few clothing, so he just placed them with the table and chair in the Void Space, he didnt always want to sit on the ground. He let Draven out for a while to let him receive some fresh air before putting him back inside almost immediately.
Jayden was the only one on his team that was going to The Arena. He wasn't sure if the Lana twins were coming along, but he hoped not, if they did, he might have some trouble protecting them from Derrick and his team since he was going to participate in the Tournament.
Jayden sat on his bed, he would have taken it too if it wasn't a part of the ground and couldn't be moved.
Jayden stared down and began to think about Knell's decision. He couldn't say he wasn't worried. First Nate, and now Knell, he hoped that Lucy and Lewis will be okay while he was away, that is if they weren't coming along.
Jayden's thoughts wandered as he thought of different things, soon, he drifted off into the warm embrace of darkness called sleep.
__________Jayden woke up with a start, he was covered in cold sweats and his breathing was erratic.
He got up and washed his face in his mini bathroom before coming back to glance at his room. He nodded his head before he went to take his bath, he put on his purple bodysuit that had a navy blue eclipsed sun etched on his left pec and left his room.
The spaceship parked at the hangar was brimming with students and teachers. There was a long line for students who were going to cheer for their seniors and they waited patiently on the orders of the teachers.
The second and third years were already in the spaceship. Soon the line moved at an amazing speed and everyone was inside in their rooms, fastening their seat belts.
"Attention everyone onboard the ship, please fasten your seatbelts, we are about to take off. I repeat, fasten your seatbelts, we are about to take off. Your compliance will be appreciated. Thank you."
Jayden sat and waited, he was focused and was ready, because it was time, to head to The Arena....
....for the Interstellar Tournament.
