"Guys, I don't think we should be doing this." Evangelina called as her and her friends hiked through the woods, their friend, Eric, stumbling over a bunch of broken branches, or nothing at all.
"It's fine, Lina." Zyran replied, laughing slightly. The four of them had been drinking and decided to venture into the woods. Zyran was tipsy but not as intoxicated as Eric.
"Come on, Lina! Lighten up." Nara grinned, walking backward. She was the second most intoxicated, proving to be so as she stumbled over a log. Eric and Nara burst out laughing.
"Hey, guys! I found a four leaf clover!" Eric exclaimed happily.
"Oo, where?!" Nara hurriedly pushed herself to her feet, running to Eric. "Let me see."
"No! It's mine!" He pouted like a little kid, hiding the clover, which was really a piece of grass, from Nara.
"Don't be a buzzkill, Lina." Zyran told, grinning at her from over his shoulder.
"Fine, but I'm not carrying him back." She announced, holding her hands up. Nara and Eric ran ahead of the group, one chasing the other.
"Yo, guys. Check this out." Zyran suddenly stopped, looking up. The four looked up, a large, fenced-in area in front of them.
"Oh, sick. Abandoned building." Nara grinned.
"We should get inside." Eric announced.
"Race you!" Nara yelled, pushing Eric and running to the fence.
"Guys, wait! What if there are people in there?!" Lina yelled. "I'm not going to jail for trespassing!"
"Lina, relax. It's abandoned. Nobody will be in there." Zyran assured, halfway through the hole Nara and Eric had already gone through.
Lina sighed, following them in. They stumbled down the hill to the abandoned building. Nara and Eric both slipped to the ground, breaking out into laughter. Zyran shook his head at the two. Lina stared up at the building. For a second, it almost seemed like there was a light inside, but she blinked and it was gone.
She shook it off. "How are we even supposed to get in?"
"Broken window." Zyran replied, walking toward one of the windows that was already shattered. Elbowing the remainder of broken glass from the window, he climbed inside and began helping the others inside. Primarily Eric.
Nara held a hand out to Lina, and she took it, letting her help her inside. She smiled in thanks, but Nara brought the hand to her lips.
"Milady." She grinned. Lina scoffed and rolled her eyes, snatching her hand back and walking forward where Zyran was.
"Milady." Eric mocked in a high-pitched voice, causing both Eric and Nara to break out into laughter again. Nara stumbled back, knocking a glass beaker off the shelf.
Zyran and Lina's heads snapped back to them.
Nara held up a hand, trying to shrug it off. "My fault."
Lina rolled her eyes. Eric snorted, resulting in a smack from Nara. There was a single door that led out of the room, and Zyran opened it. The four of them walked out, looking around confused and in awe. Surrounding them were white overhead lighting and the walls were dark and made of metal.
"So much for abandoned." Eric murmured.
"Did we just step into the Matrix?" Nara commented, wandering off to one of the doors. "Two-twenty-eight." Nara read off one of the plaques by the door. "Wonder what that means."
Just then, something jumped at the door, causing Nara to let out a scream and stumble back.
"What? What happened?" Lina asked, eyes wide.
