"Aurora!" A voice called from a distance. She laughed as she ran through the market, holding her dress in her hands. The sun was bright and beaming, familiar chatter filling the lively market. "Aurora, wait up!"
"You have to catch me first!" She called back.
Their laughs echoed, Aurora sidestepping many people, occasionally bumping into one or few. It drew a shout of disapproval from them, but she ignored it.
She stopped and hid behind a stand, peeking out to look for her friend. Her smile never left her face.
"Found you." Her friend poked her head past the beam of the stand, smiling at Aurora.
"Awe. How'd you find me?" She walked out from behind it and the two began making their way through the overcrowded market.
"You always pick that booth, Aurie. I don't know what it is that you love about it so much." They linked their arms together.
"I don't know. It just draws me in." She responded. But her attention was caught on the boy lifting things out of a wagon. She watched as his muscles flexed each time he picked a barrel out of the back. A man walked up to him and they engaged in conversation. He smiled at him, nodding his head. She watched his hair flop on his head, his hair wet and slick with sweat.
"What are you staring at?" Her friend teased, nudging her.
"What?" Her head snapped to her. "I am not staring."
Her friend laughed. "Yes, you totally were." She looked off into the direction that Aurora had. "Now who is that? I haven't seen him around."
"He just moved to the city." Aurora informed. She smiled, nudging her friend back. "Stop staring. You'll scare him off."
"He's cute." She grinned at her.
"Come on." She pushed her friend forward.
"Princess." A voice called from behind them. They turned, finding a royal knight standing a few feet away. "Your presence is requested by the King."
"Did you tell him I am out running my errands?" Aurora's friend replied.
"It's urgent." He insisted.
She sighed, turning to Aurora. "Duty calls."
"Bye." Aurora smiled, waving goodbye as she walked away with the guard at her side. The princess was well known throughout the kingdom. They knew she went against her father's wishes any chance she got, and that she was reckless. And that she hung with a commoner.
Both princesses did.
Aurora continued her way through the market, enjoying the feel of the sun beating down on her skin. She had always loved the sun.
But suddenly, a group of boys were surrounding her. "Look who we have here." One said.
"Royal scum." Another grinned.
Aurora looked around at the five of them, her heart beginning to race. The men particularly hated Aurora, primarily for her connections to royalty. She was a commoner, yet she spent much of her time among the royals. Like the princesses.
"So, who'd you have to suck off to get the attention of royalty?" One asked. "The king?"
"No. I would never." She denied. And it was true. The king didn't even like her, especially because she was a commoner. The only reason she hung out with his daughter was because of the other princess she had befriended. But she already had a companion, which was why she took a liking to King Phillip's daughter, Princess Octavia.
