The next day

I was feeling surprisingly great. The sun was streaming through my window, casting a warm glow in my room. I stretched and savored the feeling of being well-rested. After preparing myself a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee, which I didn't even drink cause ew, I felt ready to take on the day ahead. Hah!

As I was about to iron my uniform, I heard a knock on my door. When I opened it, I saw Jesse, Edward, and Kai, along with Chase, holding a box of doughnuts and a tub of ice cream. I looked at each of them with suspicion.

"What is this? Is this laced with weed or something?" I say as I grab the box of doughnuts.

"No, Max. It's just normal glazed doughnuts. I texted Mom last night and asked what your favorite snack was, other than ice cream, and she said you guys used to go to a Krispy Kreme in Hendersonville. So we went last night to this fugly, but nice-smelling doughnut shop a few blocks away."

I let them in while analyzing the pastries each. I think to myself, "This must be laced with something."

Unbeknownst to Maxine, they had been outside her unit the previous day when she was overcome with emotions. They had wanted to give her the space she needed to be alone but had also wanted to make sure she was okay.

They spent the morning laughing, chatting, and enjoying the treats together.

"So, what exactly happened yesterday? Jesse, you looked like you were about to cry when you told me there weren't any Louis Vuitton stores in Columbus." I asked.

"Well, we were just joking around. I said the apartment smelled like shit, and then Ed started pretending to gag. Next thing I knew, he's puking all over my favorite LV shoes." Jesse said as he looked at Edward with annoyance.

"Sorry, mate. I didn't mean to, but the mental image got to me. I couldn't help it." Edward replied.

"It was a classic case of cause and effect, I guess. You mention the smell, and the next thing we know, Edward's losing his breakfast." Kai jokingly said.

"I still can't believe you didn't aim for the trash can, Edward. You chose poor Jesse's shoes instead." Chase followed Kai, still laughing about the situation.

"Well, at least Jesse didn't punch you, Edward. We all know how much he loves his stupid LVs."  I said, giggling at Jesse's poker face.

"I'll admit, it was pretty funny once I got over the initial shock. But it's still going to take some time before I let him live that down." Jesse stated.

We all laughed and talked more until I realized I was going to be late for school.

"Wait, what time is it?" I asked, looking at each of them.

Jesse pulled out his phone, "It's 7:34. Why?"

"Dude, I have graduation rehearsal," I replied, running to my room and grabbing my school bag.

After quickly shoving all of my things into it, I accidentally slammed my door while changing into my school uniform.

"Isn't her graduation next week? Why do they have rehearsal this late?" Kai asked.

"I don't know. Columbus St. Agnes is just weird like that." Jesse replied while looking at his phone.

After getting dressed

"Max, let's go, let's go! I'm gonna drive you to school since my old adviser wanted to see me. I guess she missed me a lot since I graduated."  Jesse said while scrolling on his phone, waiting for me by my bedroom door.
