Two weeks ago, Mom went to look for Clint and came back a week later, while Rocket and Bruce went to New Asgard to bring Thor back, but they haven't returned yet. Back here, we continued to work on the time machine. Well, the team worked on the machine. I was there for moral support, I guess.
As I'm helping Steve by handing him the tools he needs, I turn towards the sound of a can opening. My eyes widen in shock at the sight before me, the God of Thunder with the body of a McDonald's addict. His hair has grown back and is greasy, his beard needs trimming and someone should probably take the beer off his hands.
"You're drifting left," Tony says while bringing equipment for the building of the machine. "One side there, Lebowski. Ratchet, how is it going?"
"It's Rocket. Take it easy, you're only a genius on Earth, pal." Rocket replies.
"Good come back." I tell him, giving him a high-five just as Thor lets out the most disgusting burp. We all side-eye him and he puts his hands up in defense. I shake my head and Rhodey follows me to see the others preparing for the test. When I come in, I see Scott in the new suit we created with Nebula and Banner helping him.
"Time travel suit isn't bad." Rhodes says.
Bruce goes to put the travel device in the suit when Lang interrupts him. "Hey, hey, hey! Easy! Easy!"
"I'm being very careful."
"No, you're being very Hulky." Scott continues.
"I'm being careful!" Banner snaps.
"These are Pym particles, alright? And ever since Hank Pym got snapped out of existence, this is it. This is what we have. We're not making any more." Lang freaks out.
"Hey, Scott, calm down." Rhodey says in an attempt to calm the nervous man.
"Sorry. We've got enough for one round-trip each. That's it. No do-overs. Plus two test runs." He says, calmly before putting the device in the suit. As he does that, it activates the suit and sends him away for a second then coming back. "One test run."
I sigh quietly, this is our chance to bring everyone back so we can't screw this over some test runs.
"Alright. I'm not ready for this."
"You have a weird pep talk." I tell him. "I'll do it, let me." I say, stepping forward.
"No!" "Not a chance!" "Nat would kill us." They say all together, preventing me from getting any closer.
"Oh, come on! I'm perfectly capable of doing this!" I reply.
"No, we'll find someone else to replace Scott, but it won't be you." Banner tells me. I scoff, rolling my eyes.
"I'm game." We hear a voice say behind me. I turn and see Clint leaning against the doorway. "I'll do it."
"Alright. Come here." Bruce says. They swap costumes between Scott and Clint, then he positions himself in the same place Lang was two minutes ago. "Clint, now you're gonna feel a little discombobulated from the chronoshift. Don't worry about that." Barton nods.
"Wait, wait a second. Let me ask you something." Rhodey starts. "If we can do this, you know go back in time, why don't we just find baby Thanos? You know, and..." We all watch as he imitates the action of passing a rope around the neck and tightening it. I look at him, amused and kind of worried by his thoughts.
"First of all, that's horrible." Banner intervenes in the silence.
"It's Thanos."
"And secondly, time doesn't work that way. Changing the past doesn't change the future." Bruce finishes.
