Chapter 36

We approach the titan, "You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me. I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you've shown me that's impossible. And as long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist."

Tony shrugged, "Yeah, we're all kinds of stubborn." Stark replies.

"And we're the worst at it." I add.

Thanos looks at his two-way sword, "I'm thankful. Because now, I know what I must do." He gets up, "I will shred this universe down to its last atom. And then, with the stones you've collected for me, create a new one teeming with life that knows not what it has lost, but only what it has been given." Thor's eyes light up again, while mine and my hands also light up with my feisty and fiery purple color. "A grateful universe."

"Born out of blood." Steve points out.

He smirked evilly, "They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them."

Tony puts his mask on and flies up to him, but he is brushed away. Cap blocks his sword before getting pushed back. Thor and I attack Thanos, but we get the same result as the other two. Iron Man gets back up and blasts him with a laser. We continue fighting and getting thrown away a few times.

"Okay, Thor. Hit me." Tony says as he activates a gadget that collects energy. The God of Thunder sends lightning on the back of it and transforms it into more intense blasts. Thanos deflects the outburst with his sword and Thor throws Mjolnir in Thanos' direction. As the flash goes off, the titan takes Stark and uses him as a shield against Thor's hammer. Tony lands a few yards away, unresponsive due to the massive impact. Cap hits Thanos with his shield, but tosses him onto a rock further away. The big guy launches his sword towards Thor as he comes rushing to him. The God ducks it before it makes its way back to the owner. They both struggle against each other as they both lose their weapons. Thanos gets the upper hand as he holds the long-haired blond up, choking him. He then knocks him violently to the ground and punches him repeatedly. I throw a piece of rubble from the building at Thanos, throwing him off balance. I take the opportunity to attack him with blasts of my power, but just as I get in front of him, he grabs my arm so brutally that I think he crushed it. I groan at the pain and he throws me away. As I look back up, I see him hovering Thor with Stormbreaker nearly entering his chest. I widen my eyes in worry as I see the axe starting to plunge in his armor and probably his flesh too.

I'm startled when Mjolnir suddenly hits Thanos in the face, and I look to see whose hand the hammer returns to. I chuckle in surprise when I see Cap holding it. "I knew it!" I hear Thor faintly say, causing the titan to kick him further in the ground. The purple alien and Uncle Steve approach each other and Captain America counterattacks with his sword, hitting him again with Mjolnir. I watch them both fight, smiling as Steve gets the upper hand. He knocks Thanos down using lightning and tries to strike him with the hammer again, but the titan outsmarts him and dodges. He throws Cap on the ground and his sword gets stopped by Roger's shield. Steve gets up and tries to fight him back, unfortunately this time, Thanos is better than him and sees all his blows coming. He strikes Captain America repeatedly with his sword and the latter does his best to protect himself, but the once indestructible shield is now broken in half and with a last blow, Thanos sends him lying to the ground feets away. I rush to his side, making sure he was okay. He pants heavily, grabbing my arm in reassurance. I nod to him and he strains and tries to get back up.

"In all my years of conquest, violence, slaughter, it was never personal. But I'll tell you now, what I'm about to do to your stubborn, annoying little planet, I'm gonna enjoy it. Very, very much." He tells us with indifference to our lives. A beam of lights comes from the sky and an army of aliens appears in the distance.
