Amelia's pov

"ALEX you're back" I jump in his arms before he even fully enters the house
" Mi amada, how do you feel today" he says setting me down while everyone stares at us
" good sore from dance but good" I kiss his cheek and sit back down
"Hey, Ms. Alvarez." Finn said after us
"Hey, guys. How was baseball?" She asked with a small smile on her face
"Terrible! I mean, they played great. But my snack game was way off! The kids barely touched my black olive tapenade." My dad groaned
"Thanks for helping out, but maybe next time pick a food a kid would wanna eat... or has heard of." Penelope suggested
"Yeah, and maybe next time, don't hand out masks with my face on them. Handsome, but creepy."

I followed the boys into the kitchen to get a snack. Alex fed me little bits of food
Finn glared at us, silently, from his spot against the kitchen counter.
"Ay!" We heard Penelope call from the living room
"You okay, mom?" Alex asked
"Yeah. I just need to talk to Jolene and get my shoulder squared away." She said
"Here, take one of your pain pills." Lydia suggested
"I thought you don't want me to take "las drogas"?
Penelope asked
"The pain in your body is real. The pain in your mind is in your head." Lydia said
"I'm sorry huh ?" I said
"What happened, Ms. Alvarez?" Finn asked
"It's nothing, Finn." She said, as we moved to sit at the kitchen table
"Don't be so modest. She jacked her shoulder up in Afghanistan, being a hero." My dad said
"Hero. Kabul, 2004. I was assisting in surgery when a morta hit close to the OR. The blast caused a pallet of surgical gloves to fall on my shoulder. The last part is not as impressive. But still, it's a war wound." Penelope said
"Well... thank you for your service, Ms. Alvarez." Finn said, saluting
"Yeah, don't do that." Penelope commented
"So can we have some money for the fair?" Alex asked
"Sure. Grab ten bucks from my purse." Penelope said
"Wait, don't go anywhere. I have kind of an exciting announcement." My dad said
"Something went terribly wrong in your adult diaper?"Penelope joked
"It's athleisure wear. But the good news is, after months of planning, the members of my college band have finally put aside our differences... and we're reuniting to play at the fair this afternoon." He said
We all stared at him in complete confusion.
"All right. Maybe this will entice you." He said putting on a captain's hat
I giggled a bit
"Well it should, because my band, full sail, plays yacht rock." He said

During the fair, I saw Alex and Finn sneaking back into the apartment, so l followed them.
"Hello? Abuelita? Elena?" Alex questioned
"Alex, no one's home. Your mom just left. Just grab some pills and let's gets out of here." Finns said
"Why do you guys need pills" I asked
Alex turns and looks at me
"I have a headache, why aren't you at the fair" he lies and asked
"I ran out of cash I was coming to get more, I think I'm just gonna lie down in your room" I push past him and walk to his room

I walk out of Alex's room to Elena yelling
"What are you doing here? Why are you spying on me?" Elena asked
"Tumbleweed." Alex whispered
"I'm not even gonna ask about the sword. What are you doing with Mom's pills?" She asked
"I can explain." He said
"Mhmm." She continued
"I was stealing them." Alex confessed
"Mom is going to kill you. I mean, quite literally, she is going to kill you." Elena said
"Not if I kill him first" I said
"Ami it's not what-" he tried
"Yeah whatever I'm going home"
